My entry consists of reading a Korean short story called: The Tiger and the Dried Persimmon.
I confess that I laughed a lot while reading it; it's a Korean story that captivates you from the very first page.
The story is about a tiger who enters a village looking for food and encounters a mother and her child. The mother, seeing the tiger, tells her little boy not to cry because the tiger was coming and might eat him, but the child wouldn't stop crying. The tiger was surprised that the child showed no fear, even though the mother told him the tiger was going to eat him.
The confused tiger didn't understand why the child wasn't afraid of him. At that moment, the mother said to the child, "Be quiet, there's a Dried Persimmon here!" Immediately, the child stopped crying. The dismayed tiger wondered what this Dried Persimmon was. It must be something truly horrible and ruthless, since the child had stopped crying instantly. Terrified that the Dried Persimmon would catch him, the tiger tried to flee. Just then, a thief who was nearby jumped onto his back. Because it was very dark, the tiger mistook him for the Dried Persimmon, and the thief, who had no idea he was a tiger, realized his true nature. Terrified, the thief climbed a tree using some branches as he ran. The tiger left, convinced he had miraculously escaped the great monster called the Dried Persimmon.
"The Tiger and the Dried Persimmon" is a classic anonymous folktale from Korea. It is very funny, easy to read, and entertaining. The moral of the story for me is that sometimes things aren't what they seem. There are situations that are difficult to understand, but they always have an explanation.
Thank you for joining me in reviewing this beautiful story. I invite @arribaeltelon, @militadigital01, and @angeluxx to participate in this initiative.
