The first thing on my mind right now is to thank you for opening a little window into your beautiful community, to somehow shed more light on what we Venezuelans are going through, because even though this natural disaster didn’t affect our entire country, it’s something that touches each and every one of us. Now that I’ve made the necessary introduction, let’s move on to what brought me here, which is this question:

What would you do for those who saved children’s lives or for those who tirelessly brought aid to survivors during the recent earthquake in Venezuela?

Let’s start from the beginning: if I had a way to give something in return to these people who have offered their time, effort, knowledge, experience, and love; I would provide those who need it most with better rescue equipment and everything necessary for this kind of work. I would also offer excellent salaries to those who make a living helping people in our country—such as firefighters, paramedics, nurses, and animal welfare workers, who were also on the scene to care for the animals that suffered alongside their families—as well as much more aid at every level.

I would also love to have the means to provide suitable spaces for families and so many other things; but, looking at the reality of each of us, I believe that anyone who wants to help can do so through their skills, gifts, and work, to the best of their ability. Every act of help is welcome as long as it comes from goodwill and the heart; we just have to take action.

When this happened, even though I was one of those affected—since I live in the capital city, Caracas, where the impact was felt terribly—once I confirmed that everyone in my family was safe, we all focused on trying to help those who were most affected by donating clothes and shoes; other members of my family, who are healthcare workers, went on their own to the affected areas; my husband, as a firefighter, helped rescue people; and we also prayed and asked God for His help for everyone. Each of us focused on how we could help; I think the important thing is to help in whatever way you can.

It all adds up, friends; if we each do our part, God will give us the recognition that truly matters—and that’s the best kind. This is my entry for the Ladies of Hive Community Contest #298. Best regards!

Despite the fact that your family are facing the same effect of the disaster, you still focus on helping others? That's really recommendable. Yes every act of kindness matters in time like this, no matter how small. I pray God continues to strengthen, protect, and comfort your family and everyone affected as they recover and rebuild. Thanks for sharing.

Hi! Compared to other people, my family and I were fine—aside from some repairs that need to be made to a few walls and the bathroom. The emotional toll was terrible, and I think we’ll be dealing with it for a while. For now, we’re taking it one day at a time. Thanks for your lovely visit!

Interestingly enough it was volunteer work coordinated with a church was where I discovered my passion to be a Nurse. That was the best decision of my life, The work was hard yet challenging, satisfying and fulfilling, After a little more than 25 years now retired because of my disability. But should a terrible disaster befalls my city, I will not hesitate reporting to volunteer at my local hospital. @brujita18 ❤️

Sometimes it’s in the midst of turmoil that we discover our gifts and abilities. I’m so glad you were able to discover yours and bring comfort and help to so many, because this profession involves many sacrifices, but also a great deal of dedication—and for that, you need to have love in your heart. You have undoubtedly been a blessing to others and will continue to be one. Best wishes and blessings!
