Unidos para ayudar/ United to help - LOH #298

It’s a new week for the Ladies of Hive contest. I love this week's theme because it offers a chance to share ideas to help address the major disaster that occurred in Venezuela. Here is the link to the contest post: Ladies of Hive Community Contest #298. Everyone is invited to participate.

The numbers truly fail to capture the full extent of the material damage and the loss of life. The authorities have not yet fully grasped the situation on the ground, as they lack a census of the families who lived there. Much of this damage could have been avoided had the engineering studies conducted in the La Guaira area been taken into account. The damage is done now; we must recover and ensure that such mistakes are not repeated.

It is crucial not to forget that aid is still needed in the area. Thankfully, people from all over the world have mobilized to help. For instance, my daughter’s company here in Spain organized a financial contribution to send over. Additionally, large quantities of all kinds of supplies were taken to local stadiums for shipment.

I believe the most important thing we can do is keep the issue—and the aid effort—alive, as a great deal of support will be required while the area returns to normal. No one claimed it would be easy, given the sheer scale of the damage and the large number of buildings that collapsed.

How can we keep the door open for donations from other countries so Venezuela can buy blankets and flashlights for the child survivors who are in a difficult situation?

Whether by providing financial support to organizations so they can deliver aid;
Keeping the issue visible on our social media channels—such as through videos or proposals—to ensure aid continues to arrive;
Or by donating essential items that are in demand, such as medicines, non-perishable food, and food and clothing for children.

I am truly proud of my fearless Canadian Search & Rescue teams we send anywhere in the world at a moments notice. Each team has a specially trained dog to spot survivors. Their success has given them a much deserved reputation of courage, dependability and reliability. I hope they have been of great service to the people of Venezuela. While these professionals get the headlines we should also thank those who contributed to relief in much smaller and personal unmentioned ways.

No one can actually prepare for a tragedy of that magnitude. It's good to know that other countries are helping. I just wish the Venezuelans strength, comfort and healing as the are rebuilding their lives. Thanks for sharing.
