Ladies of Hive Contest #312: Cuban Heat, Mosquitoes, and the Madness of the Weather/ El calor cubano, los mosquitos y la locura del clima. (ENG-ESP)

Hello, Hive family! This is your friend @shell975, delighted to participate once again in Ladies of Hive Contest #312, now to answer the questions proposed this week by @thekittygirl, whom I thank for this, as well as all the sponsors and those who support this great space. Let's begin...

Question 1:

"Which is the most difficult season of the year for you? Why is it difficult, and what do you do to make it bearable?"

Well, in my case, I live in Cuba, and we don't have a climate that is so distinct and regular regarding the seasons. In fact, we have a tropical climate, so the weather stands out in two periods: the rainy season (May-October) and the dry season (November-April).

Even with these characteristics, there can be rain during the dry season or sunny days in the rainy season; it's hard to predict what will happen hahaha. Apart from that, we have an alert period known as the hurricane season, which is the time when there is the highest probability of natural events of this type occurring, meaning hurricanes. That stage goes from June 1st to November 30th, so we pay close attention to the weather forecast news to be prepared.

For me, the most difficult season is the hottest stage, in July and August. Temperatures rise a lot, and it is suffocating even at night. These last few have been very unbearable because, due to the national energy situation, blackouts are extremely long, and you need at least a rechargeable fan to calm that intense heat at night.

Where I live, between blackouts and mosquitoes, we go through horrible summers xD. To give you an idea, I dress in socks, pants, or long clothes—bundled up even in the heat—because I have to choose between enduring mosquito bites (and our country is endemic to dengue and other unpleasant arboviruses) or being hotter but going outside to catch some breeze without getting bitten so much hahaha. It's a parody that is better to ignore to stop emphasizing the negative and just smile.

To make it bearable, I do exactly what I told you before: I use a rechargeable fan and wear long clothes. I avoid some of the heat and get fewer bites. The truth is it doesn't help much, but at least it's something 😅.

Question 2:

"If you live in an area of the world where the seasons are usually predictable and regular, do you like that stability, where weather usually follows expected patterns? Or do you prefer more variety, where the weather is more changeable? Is there one season when you really thrive and you're the happiest?"

I will only answer this question to give my honest opinion about how I am already tired of so much weather variety, and I would like at least for one season to know what a regular climate with 4 seasons is like 🥹.

And I also want to leave you a short anecdote. Just a few days ago, I was with my husband on our way home on the bike. The sky was clear and sunny, but when we turned the corner to continue our route, out of nowhere, it started to rain. We had to take shelter at a nearby bus stop, and as if it were normal, the sky clouded over, lightning flashed, thunder made its entrance, and everything went dark.

The funny thing is that it didn't even last 10 minutes 😂. It was so fast, and again, out of nowhere, the sun came out, and the sky cleared up. It's crazy! 🥲.

And you? Do you prefer weather stability or the madness of changing seasons? I would love to read you.

Have a happy and blessed day, everyone!

¡Hola, familia Hive!

Me encantaría leerlos.

It’s difficult to deal with power outages, the heat, the mosquitoes, and the unpredictable weather—yet I admire your attitude in choosing to stop focusing on the negatives and, instead, smile. I truly hope all these circumstances improve soon; thank you for sharing your experiences! @shell975,

Hahaha, I used to think that mosquitoes bite only in my country, Nigeria?...

I'm surprised to notice that they also bite in Cuba. Our remedy here is to spread insecticidal chemicals, get out of the house for some hours or minutes to escape the smell and allow it to kill the insects before we get to bed.

Try it, it's better than mosquitoes bitting you with their transmission of malaria and all that.

Heat and hot weather caused by extreme sunlight is another serious problem we suffer here. But my worst weather condition is the harmattan season... November to March yearly.

Thank you for sharing 😊.

I appreciate the advice and I'll keep it in mind, we really need it hahaha, we've used repellent creams and also incense and they calm them down but the mosquitoes are resistant🥲😅. Thanks for visiting my blog and for your comment, have an excellent day ☺️

If it's crazy, you didn't grab something to cover yourself from the rain when the sun is already out hahaha

Hahaha exactly @shell975 That is the madness — you will carry umbrella out for rain, before you know, sun is out. So crazy! Thanks for the laugh!

Choosing between the heat or being eaten alive by the mosquitoes is a No Win situation. I don't do well in temperatures over 30⁰ C and I sunburn too easily.

Thanks for sharing @shell975 😅

It's complicated, and even more so when the very high temperatures don't do you well; some people still wear lighter clothing, but I like the longer ones better hahaha. Have an incredible day @kerrislravenhill many blessings ☺️

Really struck by this part — "Why is it difficult, and what do you do to make it bearable?" Well, in my case, I live in Cuba, and we don't have a climate that is so distinct and regular regarding the seasons." — nicely captured. 🐝
