The Illusion of the Final Summit

You finally close in on the goal that has been pulling at you for years, the promotion, the number on the account, the project everyone said you would never finish. You expect it to feel like arriving somewhere solid. Instead you're standing in the middle of your own win, and underneath the applause there's a flat, tired quiet asking if this was really it.

This graphic was designed by me with Gemini's Nano Banana, an AI from Google.

This isn't a personal failure, it's a documented pattern researchers call the arrival fallacy, the belief that reaching the goal will finally deliver the happiness we postponed for it. In my thirty years of coaching leaders from all over the world, I have seen that feeling break even the strongest people.

So here is a question for you, which finish line are you racing toward right now expecting it to finally make you feel whole?

Wow, this is the first time I’ve read about the "arrival fallacy." What causes it, and how can it be overcome or prevented?

What causes it, and how can it be overcome or prevented?

One of the main causes is that people chase the kind of success that society dictates. That's why people can not align their values with what they do.

Feeling breaks the strongest people because they are human and they don't have to be hard on themselves always, a little mercy on themselves can bring huge relief if handled well.

It's good to know you are a leader also I'm about to start a new Career path but I'm nervous because it's demand's alot I pray I finish well.
