Home is wherever we moor it. But where to go?

Hail to the Hive!

We live a nomadic life afloat aboard Badger the Narrowboat. For over nine months we have been traveling around the UK inland waterways and canals and it is very much a superb alternative way of living.

We have adapted ourselves and the boat for a life continuously on the move and have pretty much all we need to survive onboard. But we have realised we have now gone over the same bits of the network a few times now and we are thinking of setting off in search of fresh territory that we haven’t been down yet.

We are currently here on the Birmingham Fazeley stretch of canal and we have been here before. We were in this area for a few months while awaiting the delivery and installation of our new engine and we do like it around here.

It’s beautiful with plenty of walking paths to explore and not far from supermarkets and other amenities such as water points and waste disposal.

Now we have a solid fuel stove and we have plenty of fuel to burn so we are thinking where should we head next as I think with a new engine and plenty of supplies the canals are our oyster, if you know what I mean.

But where to go? Decisions decisions.

So I spent an afternoon looking at maps and routes and thought that no matter where we go it’s winter and likely to be a bit cold and rainy but I prefer to keep on the move. i also want to take advantage of very few boats on the canal at this time of year so….

I suggested Wales to @millycf1976 and she didn’t look unhappy about it. I don’t think either of us have ever really been to Wales so why not?

Theres a very long high aqueduct there with stunning views that was high on our list of places to go so we may head that way.

Looking at the route and factoring in the narrowboats lack of warp speed capability I think it would take approx 12 days to get there so say 2 weeks and take it easy.

So I think that’s the plan. We are bound for Wales in the New Year!

Sounds like a great way to live. Wales is superb with a host of options I’d imagine. That viaduct or aqueduct you mention, is it up in North Wales? https://www.pontcysyllte-aqueduct.co.uk/ we’ve been there and it’s incredible. I didn’t cross it though, we saw it from below.
