A Set Of Unfortunate Events!

Well things turned sour way too fast, but before I dive too deep I have to say that everything worked out spectacular at the end of the day!

Friday morning very early we jumped on the road on our way to the seaside!
Sheesh, long story short we didn't make it there! Atleast not on Friday!

A nice and crappy experience to go through but one that was surely needed!

What happened was, we got about halfway! Actually exactly halfway and the car sort of broke down. It was still driveable but it gave transmissions problems and the clutch started slipping a lot! It's a dual clutch so that means that one clutch works on R,2,4,6 gears and the other one works on 1,3,5 gears. The clutch fork that operates the R,2,4,6 failed so we didn't have one of those gears!

We decided to turn back home and drive on just 1,3 and 5 at a nice pace we could stay in fifth gear for most of the way!

We made it and we made it back home with a plan!

A Day Late, But Rather Late Than Never!

So we went back home, recouped our thoughts, rested up and jumped back on the road!

Fortunately for us The Betty's mother was willing enough to lend us her car as she was already down at the seaside! We then packed everything over, got in bed and slept like we never slept before! Mind you I've never slept as good as I did after the second trip down!

This time it was a huge success! Sort of!

A Huge Delay!

What could have gone wrong in the last two days did go wrong!
Don't get me wrong I'm not sulking over everything! I see everything as an adventure! Why not?

Again just after the halfway mark we came to a grinding halt! There was a huge accident on the road involving four cars!

Google maps stated that we would have to endure a 10 minute delay but that wasn't the case at all! We had to endure a three hour stop! A THREE HOUR STOP! That means that our 8-9 hour journey turned into a 12-13 hour nightmare!

It was hectic!

At the very least we had some beautifull landscape around us and since the traffic moved slower than walking pace we could actually stand around and drift around outside for some good time!

We're here!

Well sort of! We made it to the Outeniqua pass! If I decided to continue on with my car it would have definetely gave in on this pass! We would never have gotten over it!

This felt like a major milestone that we were able to achieve! Even though it was a day later and 26 hours spent on the road enduring all kinds of shit! From accidents, to cars breaking down and even the Speed Cops pulling us over!

More action in the last two days than the last two months of my life!

This just proves that determination and sheer will, will get you where you want to be!

Even though we weren't even really that excited to see the seaside after such a journey I made a point of it to actually go down to the beach!

It felt lovely! The entire beach front has changed since the storms of September but I think we might have some more caves to explore now!

Besides I had to stick my toes in the sand!

For now I'm out and going to enjoy the holiday as much as possible, I might post shorts stories everyday but nothing major and out of the ordinary!

To all out there! Have a nice Christmas and an even better holiday season!

So glad everything turned out ok. At least I now know that my little swift is able to bring me save to the sea.

Merry Christmas!

I would imagine that car trouble might be a little less stressful, seeing as you know a thing or two about fixing transmissions. I can just feel my wallet groaning any time something goes wrong with my car (and all of our cars are 15+ years old).

You know what... older cars tend to be more reliable if they are well maintained... so you might have the upper hand! Things today are built to break, otherwise how would these automotive companies make money?
I'm paying the price for wanting to drive something luxurious and newer 🤣 although it' also not the newest model anymore. A 2013.

It was a little less stressfull since something broke that was tied to my field of work🫠🤣🤣 but why?? Why my field of work? I told the Betty the other day, I have no problem helping family out but why must they all have transmission problems all of a sudden 🤣🤣🤣... it's a little ironic if you ask me but then again that is how life works right 🤣🤣🫠

Have a great one and Merry Christmas!!!

Glad to hear that older cars are more reliable. We're torn between pouring more money into them and getting something new. I think we'll keep limping along for now.

Yeah, it's funny how everyone needs your help at once, isn't it? I bet you're pretty popular when people have car trouble!
