My Random Series: DIY Hand Sanitizer in the process

(Edited)

Covid-19 is still a wordwide threat... Mask and hand sanitizer are out of stock in lots of stores... And earlier I shared that we are making our own sanitizer in office...

It's been many weeks now... And don't think this outbreak is stopping soon yet... So I think I should make some sanitizer at home too...

So off I went "shopping"... Virtually... Via shopee... Ya... Technology is cool... I ordered the four main ingredients needed for the sanitizer... Ethanol, Hydrogen peroxide, glycerin and distilled water... From three different stores... Ya... Three different stores as there is none that sells all four items...

Waited for three days and I have received three out of the four items... I am still waiting for my hydrogen peroxide... Can't do anything yet without it...

Hand sanitizer in the store is not cheap... Normal selling price for a 50ml hand sanitizer is around RM5 (equivalent to USD1.20). For all ingredients I bought, it's about RM55 include shipping (equivalent to USD13.15). Approximately I can make at least 1000ml of the sanitizer from the ingredients I bought. By making it myself, it's about 50% cheaper.

Can't wait to get my hands on the last ingredient and start making my sanitizer... And this will also become a project for my girls as well...

Here are the ingredients I have received.

Waiting patiently for my hydrogen peroxide...

That's about it... My random sharing of the day...

Hi Eliza! Yes, your post made me smile! I like your initiative in deciding to make your own sanitizer.

Have you thought about making your own distilled water? I just googled "how to make distilled water" and found some clear instructions so it shouldn't be too difficult, I guess.

As for masks, I think they are more like a "comfort blanket" than an effective defense against viruses. I live in Japan and I don't like seeing discarded masks littering the streets. Also, people tend to pull their masks under their chins when they want to speak to someone. It looks pretty silly - and now they are spreading/receiving germs anyway! LOL!

Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted. Take care.

Not really wearing mask here in Malaysia... But I do keep some at home, just in case it really gotten worst... And I agree that more germs spread and receive if we pull the mask down.
Making own distilled water... Hmm... Not sure about this, will googled it and see whether my youngest can do it together or not...
Thanks for dropping by.

Cool on making your own hand sanitizer. I look forward to reading your post and may get into making some myself too. Hand sanitizer here is relatively cheap (8oz bottle for $1.99 USD) but it has a lot of "extra" ingredients aka fragrance.

I was surprised that you had to buy distilled water too and had it mailed to you, here they sell it by the gallon and costs less than $1.00 USD. A gallon is 3.78 liters.

Funny how some things in your part of town are so much cheaper than here and others are so dang expensive.
