Ulog #100 | The closest Malaysian food for me

While many of my Malaysian family and friends enjoy and indulge themselves on the ever available Malaysian Signature cuisines such as nasi lemak, roti canai, chicken rice, satay, beef or chicken rendang .... for me it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. It took me months to get connected to people who knows where to get these dishes and even when I got it, it is not like a one-shop-serves it all.

Thankfully, with the help of the Malaysian Kaki in HCMC, I was introduced to one of the famous Malaysian Chefs in HCMC. Nigel who seemed to have been in Vietnam for many years have created a name for himself amongst the Malaysian community. He only does foo delivery and using the ever reliable platforms such as Grab Food, Foody & Baemin, Nigel has definitely created a name for himself. Knowing how fussy Malaysians are about their Signature dishes, I do think he's lived up to the standards of these fellow comrades. Almost everyone whom I speak to recommends his dishes especially the famous Nasi Lemak.

This is our Malaysian Signature Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Drumstick at only VND49,000 = MYR8.84 = USD2.11. If comparing with the nasi lemak back home, the price is indeed acceptable though I cannot say for sure if it taste just as good. I haven't gone around to ordering my first nasi lemak in Vietnam. Maybe, I'm just afraid to be disappointed or overwhelmed with just how much I miss these delicacies.

Other dishes prepared by Nigel & his team (Makiucha) are Kari Kapitan, Banana Cheese, Beef Rendang and for this week, he has decided to tease us with the famous Penang Char Kway Teow with added cockles to suit the Malaysian taste bud. I'm really glad to have known that such Malaysian delicacies are available in HCMC; at least during the times that I fancy some home country dishes, I would know where to get it.

If you're currently in your home country, be sure to appreciate the food that you have around you because for people like me, this is really a treasure 😀. When I do finally order nasi lemak from Nigel, I'll be sure to take a photo and share with you my recommendations.

Somehow, this post seemed rather timely. It's our Malaysian Independence Day on the 31 August and I just feel rather patriotic not only for my country but also for the food that we have.
