~ Dog Stinkhorn Fungi ~
Mutinus caninus
09/12/2019
I get really excited when I discover a new fungi that I haven't seen before.
When I spotted these Stinkhorns at the base of an old Birch tree I was absolutely thrilled and quickly began taking pictures.
I had no idea what they were and was looking forward to identifying them.
😲🤭
Stink..!!!
Oh my gosh do they stink. I have smelled some horrible foul things before but WoW 😵 they are rank !
In researching it was mentioned a few time they smell like "rotting flesh"
They are also sticky and slimy too. I couldn't resist touching one.
A definite weird oddity about me.
One would think seeing, smelling and taking photos would have sufficient but I had to go for the full and total experience and touch one.
I'm weird.
🤷♀️😅
Stinkhorn eggs.
I'm so glad I took a picture of the Stinkhorn eggs. I almost didn't.
I could clearly see the Stinkhorns emerged from something white in coulour but I didn't know they were classified as eggs.
I will be looking in the same spot I saw them last year and see if they emerge again.
They are indeed very stinky but they truly are unique and an amazing sight to see.

Oh my god ! .. this fungi is something really special, hahaha .. I have some weird thoughts in mind by looking at the picture of this funny funghi 🤣 .. That maybe happens if Mother Nature is continuing work after a big party out there 🤓
I kinda had somewhat the same thoughts on these pictures :)
😄..!!
@adalger
These Stinkhorns are most amazing and they are definitely
thought-provoking and special 🤣😁..!
I could have easily added a very descriptive paragraph as to what I thought the Stinkhorns closely resembled 😳🤣.
~Amazing Nature 💕~
They truly look very weird - I have never seen any like those before :)
🤗
They are strange and weird looking for sure..!
@seadbeady
It was my first time seeing them.
:-)
OK with the eggs and stinkhorn you have simply blown my mind with unusual in the wild...
Then you touched it, yikes with a smell that is off putting as well, you surely are a brave photographer out in the wild!
We have rank smelling plants over here to attract flies that they eat, but fungi, I wonder what that is trying to entice, most definitely not eating.
Thanks for sharing superbly different, to anything seen before in the land of fungi!

It truly is unusual weird and very foul smelling fungi.
I didn't see and flies on. When I read up on it. It was mentioned flies are attracted to it and eat the slimy stuff near the top of the Stinkhorn.
😳 Disgusting😵.

They stink pretty bad. Keep an eye out for more eggs, they might turn into the octopus stinkhorn.
🤭😵
@sketch.and.jam
They sure do smell horrible...!
I will be looking for them again. No sign of them so far this year.
I will definitely Google
octopus stinkhorn....!!!
:-)
The octopus stinkhorns look like an evil alien octopus hatching out of the ground.
😳😲😮...!!!
I Google Octopus stinkhorn..😲😲😲..!!
Wow... That is totally amazing and freaky. I would be awesome to see it that's for sure. I'll
They grow around here but I have never found them in their perfect looking stage, just dried out stage.
