MyPictureDay - Sublime Sunday - The Moon, Woodland Scenes and the Goslings Have Hatched...
I love the early morning light playing on the tree tops! In fact it is often what gets me out of bed, when I look out my window and see there is gold in the tree tops!

I also like the clear evening skies and there has been some glorious evenings out under the bright moon. With it rising among the pine trees I was able to get some fabulous shots!

I'm not sure what happened in this next shot - it looked like the moon was melting onto the branches!

I'm glad I caught those clear nights for some moon shots for it was overcast on the night of the full moon which bought a period of cool rainy weather.
The waterfowl didn't seem to mind the wet weather and I was fortunate to capture the newly hatched Canada Geese goslings out for a swim.

Actually there were two families of geese and as we approached they took their young goslings to hide by some shrubs at the other side of the pond where there were a few pairs of Barrow's Golden-eye ducks swimming around.

On another pond further back in the field I spotted a pair of Red-necked Grebes who breed in our area.

The Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) - Its scientific name comes from Latin: the genus name Podiceps is from podicis, "vent" and pes, "foot", and is a reference to the placement of a grebe's legs towards the rear of its body - src

When I saw where they were nesting I was wondering if their nest would get covered with water then I found out they build a floating nest.
Nest: Site is in shallow water among marsh vegetation. Nest (built by both sexes) is a floating mass of plant material, with a definite depression at the top, anchored to standing plants. - src
In the morning I had seen a flock of geese flying over the house which seemed rather late but I found out the Speckle Belly Geese still migrate into June so perhaps it was them.

Or perhaps it was a flock of Canada Geese flying over our house for I saw a flock of them down on the pond in my neighbor's field. It was funny at first they were swimming still in formation! Looking at them I was wondering if perhaps it was the family from last year with the male, female and juveniles? After swimming for a bit they went off into the field to eat and settled in to rest.

There was some mallards and a pair of Barrow's Golden-eye ducks on that pond too!

Back home as the sun sat lower in the sky it shone through the forests making some delightful woodland scenes!

You live in a pretty nice place! The nature is stunningly beautiful!
lots of waterfowl where you live.
I saw some greebes in spring. They were doing a mating ritual by bobbing their heads.
They walk funny, but I hear they dive well.
How fortunate that you were able to capture the grebes doing their mating ritual! I have only seen it on video!
