Wednesday Walk Looking at Nature's Artwork...
We've had a very slow melt of the snow this Spring but finally the trail leading up to the hill was open enough so you weren't trodding through the snow.
Bruno loves to run on the hillside and there is a splendid view up there.
We saw the first flush on the cottonwood trees as their catkins begin to open.

Back home on our lane way, on the north side of the trees, there is still some snowbanks and Bruno finds it very refreshing to roll in it and in the image below he was sticking his head in the snow sniffing around. I wonder what he smells under there?

With the cooler night temperatures and weather above zero in the day times water from the melting snow was sitting in the ditches then as soon as the sun went down the temperatures dropped freezing the water in very interesting patterns. Each section of the lane way would have a different pattern. It was fascinating to see nature's artwork! Have a look...

The next picture is the coolest where the water must have risen up onto the moss but as it resided the quick freeze formed it into this beautiful leaf like shape.

The next formation I'll show you was fascinating for it formed a thin leaf like pattern of ice and the water had resided away from it leaving it free standing.

As we came into the yard the squirrel perked up from eating the seeds at the feeder and made a dash for the tree before Bruno got too close.

Up in the tree tops there were some juncos, evening grosbeaks and chickadees. Have a look...
