Scaredy Cat

😻 Happy Caturday Everyone!😺

This is not really a happy Caturday post as it involves a young cat that has been left on it’s own as the temperature drops during the winter season.

The last couple months I noticed two stray cats coming around the outside of the house. This is an unusual occurrence as I have not seen many feral cats in this area.

A pretty little calico kitten was the first one to hang around and I left food out for it. Eventually I was able to tame it and took it to the vet to be checked. I found a good home for it as I already have two inside cats.

This is Friday. the latest feral cat~a striped tabby.

Friday has the M marking on the forehead and striped designs on the face which is characteristic of the tabby cat. There’s dark stripes around the neck, tail and throughout the body.

The one stripe out from each eye’s outer corner leaves a sad expression and remind me of my friend @deerjay’s Sad cat.

Although, the last 2 weeks, I’ve left food outside on the back deck for Friday, the cat will not come to eat until I go back inside the house.

Friday is a real scaredy-cat and terrified of people. I don’t know if Friday is a male or female but has fattened up since I first started leaving out food every morning. Friday was very thin when I first saw the cat. I put worm medicine in the food a couple days as animals (humans also) may need treatment for parasites. I wondered if he/she is pregnant.

Since the cat is so afraid I can only hope Friday survives the winter while living outside under the deck. It’s a bit of shelter as it has a roof.

Luckily animals have a fur coat. Animals are amazing creatures of nature and most will find a dry warm place when temperatures fall below freezing but I have seen stray cats with chunks off the ends of their ears from frostbite.

Friday seems to prefer living under the deck and maybe feels safer close to the house.

The Blue Jays are not impressed with Friday and only fly in quickly, grab some food and fly out.I’ve seen Friday make a motion towards the birds but they flew away safely. It’s a cat’s natural instinct to hunt and they will keep the rodents under control.

There is also the danger of coyotes getting small animals. Many people have lost pets and coyotes have been seen nearby.

It’s still beyond my mindset how people can discard animals and leave them to fend for themselves. Someone must have brought the kittens to this area and dropped them off.

... and all the animals talk to each other and know where to go to always get food and help, dear Jo 🙂

When I saw the photos I thought Friday looks a well fed cat, but later in your text you mentioned anyway that Friday has got fatter since you are feeding it 😁

I hope you will be able to help the cat furthermore and maybe find a good place for this one too. BTW, I seem to have missed that you have found another place for CC ;)

Wish you a very nice Sunday, dear Jo 🤗🔆

Good morning Hannes,🙂

I guess I’m sort of a foster parent to the strays. :) Friday is looking good now but still will not come near me after a few weeks. When I bring the food outside and call, I will hear a faint meow, from under the deck, but Friday won’t come to the food until I go inside.

CC was a sweet young cat and I was able to tame, clean her up and find a good home for her. Friday is a different kettle of fish and as long as the cat survives the winter and any coyotes, I will help as much as I can.

Have a wonderful week dear Hannes and thanks for your generosity with the tip, reblog and goodies.🤗🐱

Good morning Jo,

our Onyx is also still very shy and both kittens are frightened about any loud sound - when a phone rings they run. The family where they were born is very nice, so I have no idea, but I believe they will calm down when they grow older.
So, Friday must have had some very bad experiences with people, I believe. Help her survive the winter and maybe in Spring she will come to you - she already talks to you when you call her :)

Have a wonderful week, dear Jo 🤗🔆

Thanks for stopping by @foxkoit. :) Yes, Friday’s fur is getting thicker and fluffier as the cooler January weather sets in.😺

hello dear friend @redheadpei good day
Cats are very observant and intuitive, they know who to trust and where to protect themselves from the dangers of living on the street.
You are doing a great job with them. Congratulations
I really appreciate that you have taught us
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid week

Very cute kitty with lovely round face, at least coming out to get food Jo, hopefully not pregnant or you will more on your hands to take to animal rescue.

Down in our coastal bush there are many feral cats, people abandon pets... Locals now arranged with Veterinarians, certain people feed and capture them to get fixed then released again, slow wild population down.

I glad the cat comes out to get the food and gives a little cry when I call but it is scared and will not come near me.

True that feral cats can be a problem and there is here a cat help group and animal humane society. I've heard people complain coyotes have taken their outside cats. Coyotes have definitely kept the cat population down.

Thanks for the beer!

With some wild animals in our south coast beach vegetation food must be scarce, human habitation taking over.

Periodically we see banded mongoose, odd small buck, porcupine very rarely caracal wild cat.

Taking care of all would make for a better world.

Outside cats are very resilient and I'm sure Friday has some secret sleeping and hanging out spots. I think you are right about those stripes giving them that sad look too. Friday does look healthy and well fed but I sure hope Friday leaves the chipmunks and squirrels alone. Birds too but Friday is a cat after all. The outside cats here are great working cats and have been helping to keep the vole population down although they do bring me a bird now and then. So far no Cardinals thank goodness. That would make me sad but not mad at the cats since that is what they do. Much Love Jo and if you don't see me much here then that is because I have some health issues acting up. Nothing more just more of the same..lol. Gotta' keep that sense of humor! 😉💞

You are right Dee about the outside cats being smart and probably find somewhere to sleep secretly. 😺💞

Friday has been quite fascinated by the Blue Jays and has made a few attempts to catch one but good they are fast and know he’s around.

Sorry to hear your health issues are acting up my friend. ❤️ Stay warm and safe.in these tumultuous times.

Thanks for you generosity and reblog.

Much love and blessings! 🙏
