Swamp Challenge

(Edited)

My entry to the last weekly challenge hosted by @bucipici. Check Here for more information.

The topic is SWAMP. This includes wetlands and bogs

I had taken photos of a beaver dam in a swampy area on P.E.I.

It was early spring and the ice still covering most of the water.

I was hoping to see a beaver but he never showed up.

This is what a beaver looks like with a stout body, hand-like front paws and webbed back feet. Their two front teeth never stop growing and are used in chiselling down a tree to use to make the dam.

I always thought the most amazing part was the broad flat tail that helps with swimming. They slap the tail sharply in the water to warn of danger.

Nature is amazing and has so many ways to help wildlife find shelter, such as, the beaver’s knowledge to build this dam.

In this photo he is sitting on the tail.

Another photo that shows the tail in a normal position.

This is another beaver dam along the same highway in a marshy area. Again no beaver in sight.

A blue heron checks the edge of the wetland to see if any dinner for him stirring in the water.

Hello dear friend @redheadpei good night
What a beautiful post. I even perceive the fresh air of the place. Nature is incredible. How not to love and respect her.
Thank you very much for showing us these beautiful images.

Thank you for the good information. I know of a few beaver dikes, but I haven't had a chance to meet a beaver yet :-)

Welcome @bucipuci. I have seen a few beavers when I as younger. My father was a forest ranger and I went with him a few times when he had to trap and move beavers to a new location because their dam was changing the flow of a stream and a landowner was complaining about these industrious little engineers.

Thank you Dee.❤️ It’s amazing what interesting plants and animals to be found in a swamp. There always seems to be beauty in nature.as long as people don’t use the areas as dumping grounds.

Have a lovely Sunday my friend.😊

You should come here for a walk at the reservoir with me, Jo. I promise you that there will be at least one beaver.
We have to go early in the morning and I can also show you the trees they cut with their teeth 😁

Sometimes one comes close to look who or what I am, but also many times when I see one he sees me too and slaps his tail on the water and dives 😉

A walk at the reservoir sounds nice Hannes.😊

How lovely to see a beaver that often. I haven’t seen one here but there was evidence of a tree they cut down with their teeth. It was on the property where a stream runs through. I did take a photo of the tree but can’t find it now.

Enjoy your day dear Hannes.🤗

There's also a beaver in the stream near my parents house, but nobody has seen him yet, apart from my son who has been able to take a video where you can see him for a second but it is definitely a beaver. So, they know how to hide.
The beavers at the reservoir might be a little bit more used to people, so they don't hide that fast.

Today is a computer day, just as it was the whole week. Left is my office laptop and in front I have my own computer monitor, and to be honest, I prefer the view in front of me ;)

I hope your Sunday has become nice, dear Jo 🌞

I didn’t see any evidence of a dam where I saw the felled tree by the stream but the man on the next road complained the beaver dam was causing problems with the dam flooding some portion by his road. I didn’t see that it was doing any harm. It was in the newspaper he wanted the beaver removed. I don’t know what happened but I hope the poor beaver is okay. I liked the idea of a beaver being here.

A least you know the one at your parents is not a phantom as your son caught a glimpse of the beaver on video.

Will you be working in the office this week?

Have a good week dear Hannes.😊

Near the house of my brother in law is a pond or it's more like a swamp, where also a beaver lives. He says that the beaver blocks the outflow of the pond and so the farm fields nearby get flooded sometimes.
I believe, that in such areas the beavers might cause a problem, but since I am no farmer and don't own land with a river or pond I don't mind the beavers at all ;)

Yes, I am at work since 6am and I am on nightshift tonight, what means I sleep in the office ;)
I can't complain about being bored at work - there's so much to do which I can't do at home, but the time is running fast and that's good, because next weekend is a looong weekend - December 8 is a holiday here and I want to take Monday off :)

I am already planning a hike somewhere far away from civilisation, but that's hard these days, because the people are literally everywhere ;)

Hope you're having a nice week too, dear Jo 🤗🔆

Some people think the beaver is a nuisance but they play an important role by improving the landscape and keeping our ecosystems healthy The constructing of dams, ponds and wetlands make habitat for other animals, such as, fish and insects.

I see where Dec. 8 is celebrated in many countries as the ‘Feast of the Immaculate Conception’ It’s not a holiday here but probably many people will attend mass that day.

Nice to have a plan for your long weekend dear Hannes 🤗

Have a wonderful Tuesday and don’t work too much.

Good morning Jo 😊

Yes, I know they play a big role, and in some areas they get their place to do whatever they want. Just sometimes they move to areas where they disturb famers or where their dams causes flooding or so.

I believe our lockdown will be extended because our numbers are still high, so I might be in the home office next week ... I'll see what I will be able to do and if the weather is nice ;)

You have a nice Tuesday too, dear Jo 🤗🔆

Awesome pictures, @redheadpei! I will have to check out the challenge. I have quite a few swamp photos from swampy ponds near my house.

I love the beaver sitting on his tail. I had no idea they did that. I hope you get to see one for real!

Unfortunately I couldn't pull it together in time for the deadline. And it appears that this challenge series has come to an end too. That's too bad!

Wow Jo I got so excited thinking you had eventually seen this character, we have looked high and low for Cape clawless otto in regions knowing they are around but alas never had a sighting.

Your beavers build impressive big homes for winter, dam up waterways and are very much more active, really hope you get to see one soon! Oh I do wish we had sturdier teeth like the beavers, it would most definitely help in older age and cut down on expenses too 😄

Ha, ha, it would be great to have sturdier teeth like a beaver in old..er age Joan. But we would have to have something to keep gnawing on or we would have large buck teeth. 😄

Maybe one of these times the beaver and Cape Clawless Otto will show himself.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!😊
