Let’s Weave A Wig - New Skill Unlocked

(Edited)

Hello everyone, I’m so excited today. One of my goals this year was to learn new skills. It’s just the 4th month of the year and I’ve learned 3 new skills already. Cheers to that.
My sister is very good at braiding and anything hair but I on the other hand didn’t even know how to comb hair. I made a decision to learn how to make wigs over the past month. Wig making is one of the most profitable businesses in Ghana.

A lot of people like to wear wigs for so many reasons. For me, I wear wigs when I’m tired of dealing with my natural hair. Anyone with 4c hair type would understand the kind of struggles I go through to style my hair so my go to hair is always a wig. I told my sister about it and we started preparing for my classes.
She bought the extensions and just made me use her tools to start practicing. After some weeks, she gave me first my real wig to make. I used about 2 days to make this but that’s because I’m a beginner. After practicing for a while, you become faster.

Materials I used were:
• Mannequin head
• Wig cap
• Weaving needle
• Hair extensions
• Scissors
• Comb

Procedure
I started by putting the cap on the mannequin head and ruling lines with a chalk for where I’ll sew the extensions on the cap.
I then attached the front part and held it with a pin and clip to the mannequin head.

I started sewing the extensions line by line on the outlines I made on the cap. From what I learned, making the outline helps with making a fuller wig. From here, it was really simple. I just had to sew the extensions till I was done.

After I finished, I secured some important places so no matter how aggressive the owner wears the wig, the extensions won’t remove.

After I was done, I put it well on the mannequin to check for any other extra work to be done. Extra work like checking if it looks alright and full.

I later styled it on my sister’s head and used her as my model. For the frontal to have a natural look, I put some foundation on it and that’s why you can see some brown part of it.

Thank you so much for your time and let me know if you like it.

Ho ho, my baby is doing really well 🥰. So you also have 4c kind of hair, lol it's a struggle for real.

Wigs are also well patronized her in Nigeria so go girl 🥰. Well, I don't really fancy them though, I still prefer dealing with my natural hair 🤣

The struggle eh😂😂
I even decided to cut my hair sometime but then I stopped because it would make me look like a child

Unless you cut soap for me to also be able to deal with my hair o

This wig turned out great!! I am very impressed at how seamless the transition is. I would have no idea that your sister is wearing a wig in this image if you had not mentioned it.

Wow, I've never seen the making of a wig before. They are quite expensive here too, so it's a good thing you know how to make them. It looks good on your sister, it almost doesn't look like it's not her real hair. Great work :)

You're a quick learner. It's great you've added another skill to your arsenal.
Soon, you'll probably become a pro and start teaching others how to make wigs as well.

This would be good for our chemotherapy patients, as they lose their hair. I am wondering if they could cut their hair before chemotherapy and then craft out of their own. Just a thought. Or maybe I will save my hair as when I grow older and bald, I prefer to use my own. Hehe, amazing. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Wow - great work dear @abenad - I used to wear wigs at art school, and had a lot of fun with them; it's fab changing hair colour and length, texture and style, in a moment... I never thought to make one like this: you make it look fairly achievable, and it looks very good on your sister 😍 Good luck and all power to you earning through wig-making!

Wow! This is great, and wig is so much in demand as a lot ladies prefer wearing it. It's a good skill

Aside wearing wig to take selfie at home, I have not really wore it to look that serious. I prefer going with my natural hair.
