My Crocheted Bucket Hat (Tutorial)

Hello @needleworkmonday ladies. Hope everyone is doing fine and comfortable in your home. It's been weeks already since I was able to share here so now I'm gonna make up those days.

This past few days, there was something happened that I felt so upset and sad. I mean it hurts when you start caring for other people, giving them your best shot, share them all that you had, welcome them in your home and in just a matter of one mistake, they forgot all the good deeds that you had made. What we get in return for all the sacrifices we made is getting judged just because of one mistake. We were being avoided as of we have a contagious disease. But life must goes on, with or without them. Some people were meant to pass only and not to stay. I have to let go of this feeling and move on.

Well, as we all know, crochet is a therapeutic both on mind and body. And I was thinking that instead of thinking those people and what had happened will only bring no good, I will just focus myself on the things that I would love doing. So I started to think of something new but already existed. Wait, what? How could it be a new one if it’s already existed? Yes, it is possible and no I’m not crazy. Funny but here it is. Many had shared already the different kinds of stitches, the techniques over the internet. And me, myself love to screenshot those beautiful stitches whenever I look for beautiful crochet projects. So whenever I feel like creating a new one, I look back all those screenshots on my phone’s gallery. Like if there’s a specific stitches or techniques that was made in a blanket and it seems a very nice and catchy design, I started to think of using that but in a different thing, like a top or a hat.

I found this design/stitches/technique in pinterest, admired it and save it on my phone for future reference. I think that was months ago, and now I finally thought of something to make out of it.

When I share this photo on a crochet group on social media, a lot of ladies expressed their interest for this pattern. Since bucket hat is now trending, many had made their own version of this bucket hat. Be it crocheted, knitted or a fabric being sewn. I also made mine in different designs. Well, they are all crocheted obviously, but this previous design that I made was being noticed by many. They were asking for patterns in which I didn't have yet by that time but decided to remake it in order for me to take the step-by-step pictures along with the written pattern.

Materials:

  • 4ply undye Monaco cotton (offwhite)
  • 3ply Monaco Mercerized cotton (golden yellow, gold, orange and red)
  • 2.75 mm hook
  • scissor

Pattern:

Start with a magic ring (golden yellow yarn)

  • (1st round) Chain 2, dc 14 (total of 15 dc) see picture #2.
  • (2nd round - off-white yarn) Chain 2, 2 dc in every stitch (total of 30 dc) see picture #4

    • (3rd round) Chain 2, dc 1 on 3 consecutive stitches then 2 dc on the 4th stitch (1-1-2-1-1-1-2) and so on (total of 36 dc) see picture #5
    • (4th round – use gold color) chain 1, same pattern as the 3rd round but instead of dc, use sc (1-1-2-1-1-1-1-2) (total of 45 sc) see picture #6
    • (5th round) chain 1, sc 1 on 4 consecutive stitches then 2 sc on the 5th stitch (1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-2) (total of 53 sc)
    • (6th round) chain 1, sc 1 on 5 consecutive stitches then 2 sc on the 6th stitch (1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-2) (total of 63 sc) see picture #7
    • (7th round – use off-white color) chain 2, dc 1 on every stitch (total of 63 dc)
    • (8th round) chain 2, dc 1 on 4 consecutive stitches then 2 dc on the 5th stitch (total of 75 dc) see picture #8
    • (9th round – use orange color) chain 1, sc 1 on 5 consecutive stitches then 2 sc on the 6th stitch (1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-2) (total of 87 sc)

    • (10th round) chain 1, sc 1 on 6 consecutive stitches then 2 sc on the 7th stitch (1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2) (total of 100 sc)

    • (11th round) chain 1, sc 1 on every stitch (total of 100 sc) see picture #9.

    • (12th & 13th round – use off-white color) chain 2, dc 1 on every stitch (total of 100 dc) see picture #10.

    • (14th, 15th & 16th round – use red color) chain 1, sc 1 on every stitch (total of 100 sc) see picture #11.

    • (17th & 18th round– use off-white color) chain 2, dc 1 on every stitch (total of 100 dc) see picture #12.

    .
    • (19th round – use golden yellow color) make a slip knot then attach it to the one your working with by drawing the knot (as you can see on the picture #13), then yarn over three times and insert the hook on the 16th round (red yarn) as what you can see at the picture #17, skip the 3 dc...

... and insert the hook on the middle of the 4th and 5th dc and continue the double treble crochet (dtc). See picture #18 - 22.

Sc 1 on 5 consecutive stitches then yarn over three times (see picture #25)...

...and insert the hook back on the same spot (in between the 4th and 5th dc - picture #26) and continue the dtc but before you finish it (leaving 2 loops on the hook) yarn over three times and insert the hook on the middle of the next 4th and 5th.

Continue the process 'till end. (refer picture #30-33 on how to do it on the last part).

    • (20th round - off-white color) chain 2, dc 1 on every stitch (5 consecutive stitch) then skip 1 stitch (see picture #34-36 total of 100 dc)
    • (21th round) chain 2, then dc 1 on every stitch (total of 100 dc)
    • (22th round - gold color) follow the procedure on 19th round.

    • (23th & 24th round - off-white color) follow procedure 20th and 21th round.
    • (25th round - orange color) follow the procedure on 19th round.
    • (26th round - red color) chain 1, then sc 1 in every stitch (total of 121 sc).
    • (27th round) chain 1, sc 1 on 5 consecutive stitch then sc 2 on the 6th stitch. Repeat procedure 'till end.
    • (28th round) chain 1, then sc 1 on every stitch 'till end.
    • (29th & 30th round - off-white color) chain 1, then sc 1 on every stitch 'till end.
    • (31th round) chain 1, sc 1 on 10 onsecutive stitch then sc 2 on the 11th stitch. Repeat procedure 'till end.
    • (32th, 33th & 34th round) chain 1, then sc 1 on every stitch 'till end.

So here is the output of our today's tutorial, hope you all like it.
And I also made a pair of this bucket hat, a crochet crop top with an embroidered "PINAY" on the front.

I was amaze and happy as how it turned out. The color combination was really attractive as planned. And I noticed that the heartache I felt did lessen but there's still there. Therefore, I'm planning to make more tutorials for the following days. Yey! So good luck to me and hope you will support me 'till this hurt subside, lol.

Sidenote: As you all noticed that every time I made a crochet tutorial with written pattern, the words were not exactly fit or should I say, some terms that I used were inappropriate. As I made this hat pattern someone asked me if she can purchased the pattern, and I was thinking of selling it on etsy. But I am not confident yet and think I still need to improve the terms that I am using. I will be glad if you can share your thoughts or reactions about this written pattern and I will appreciate it much. Thank you and God bless us all.

Buti na lang at may crocheting ka, nalalampasan ang kahit ano pa mang pagsubok. Kaloka ang pag judge ng mga judger. But out of that terrible mistreatment to you, you were able to create something beautiful. What a way to shine when you're in the darkness, right?
I'm just here sis, if you need someone to talk to. Just rant your heart out anytime. :) 🤗🥰

Muy lindo gorro, me gustan hacer gorro tejidos, he realizado varios personalizados. Me encanta ver a los pequeños disfrutar de su personaje favorito en el gorro que llevan puesto. Se ven muy lindo. De adulto he realizado solo dos.
