Lotus Flower - My Cross-stitch Story
Hello everyone !
Today, I will share the story of a project that took me so long to finish. At a young age of nine, I already knew that I had been fond of crafting of any sort. I watched my neighbor crocheted a blanket and that inspired me to make curtain laces for our windows. When I was a freshman in college, I always went to the library in between class breaks looking for american crafting books and magazines.
I scoured the book shops in the university belt as well on my way to the bus station. In one of these shops, I was flipping the pages of an old magazine and I saw a floor rug with a lotus design. I studied it carefully and it was with a graph pattern. I knew that I can make it using the crossstitch version. I bought the old magazine and began transferring the design painstakingly by hand in a graphing paper. I used 8 graphing papers because I want to make the pattern bigger for my eyes.
When the materials were complete including the thread, I began to stitch. After I stitched half of the design, I got bored and stopped it for a while. It was just there untouched for more than a decade that I forgot about it.
And then, when I went to Europe, I brought it along with me and little by little I did almost 3/4 of the pattern when the thread ran-out. I couldn´t find the right color or the same DMC thread, so I used a similar shade to the one I already used. It was even better that the color was different because some petals could have different hues particularly when the light is falling on them in reality.
I finally finished the whole design after a very long long time and I am glad I made it which I think is a big achievement in cross-stitching.
Have a great start of the week everyone!

Wow ganda ng paggawa ng mga petals.
Lol, salamat Neng....tagal bago natapos pero nakaraos din...
Wow - a lot of work and effort! Beautiful :)
Thank you so much.
It turned out beautiful even with the different shade of thread which gave it a depth. I too have some crosstitch projects stashed away for a decade or more but in my case, I haven’t gotten back to it hehe.
Congratulations at completing yours! It is a lot of effort to do what you did for sure.

It is wonderful to read how your love of crafts has such a long history and you are so persistent to complete this wonderful lotus motive even after you could not find the thread anymore. But you are right, the different colors make it much more life-like as a petal often has so many different shades of green.
Wonderful work of art!
Thanks a lot my dear... I´ve been so busy these days because of the upcoming move to our new home... and yeah, thank God I finished it. I just read your post on the Eden dress... I was amused, you were funny. Take care!
