Crochet in Our Homeschooling Journey

Every week, we have a shape of the week on our board. And so far, she's been a quick study. This week, I just thought of incorporating my hobby to her learning. Our shape of the week is the hexagon. I figured she'll love another crochet shape on her collection. She already has the mayflower, this hexagon crochet would be a good addition to her inexpensive toys. This is also one of my ways to get her interested in crocheting soon.

Guess the WIP

For this week's Guess the WIP contest, this hexagon is actually meant to be something else. This project is somewhat like a drawing. The hexagon will be the canvas. Since my artistic talent is more inclined in needlework, I will be using the resulting art from this hexagon for another small item used as a trinket and adornment.

I'll be using red and white yarns for this project. There is a mystery item that I'll be using to complete this project which I cannot reveal because it will automatically reveal the project itself.

How to Make a Hexagon Crochet

This little hexagon actually took me all afternoon to make. I tried different approaches. I searched the internet for patterns that would match the project I have in mind. All the patterns show double crochets, starting at the middle, and sorta granny hexagon stitches. My project requires that the base itself should not have big holes in it and so I tried working from the bottom up as opposed to from the center outward. I also tried to start in the middle but not really at the dead center. At first, I did not want to start it with a circle so I decided on making chains, then crawling my way upward, planning on connecting the two halves of the hexagon together.

Nothing works. In the end, I used the circle at the center approach. I used the increasing patterns that we use for crocheting round items but this time, I intentionally made it an imperfect circle. I made the 6 corners more prominent by adding 1 chain between each increase.

Crocheting indeed tests our patience. I have frogged this tiny little hexagon more times than any other project I made in the past. Add to the fact that I haven't really made any hexagon projects before.

But well, it is even more exciting when it is challenging. And the feeling of accomplishment, once you've achieved the design you wanted to do, is simply amazing.

Prizes

For the benefit of those who will join for the first time, the prize for the first three correct guessers would be a week of 100% upvote from me. Everybody who joined the contest will receive an equal amount of the HBD rewards of this post. You can only guess once though. :)

Happy guessing everyone! The reveal will be on Monday. So stay tuned!
