Crochet Baby Shoes

Last week, I showed you the Crochet Baby Dress requested by one of my neighbors for their three-month-old baby. It's a good thing that my client was just nearby. I have already finished the baby dress, it just needs the finishing touches when I asked the mommy if she wants to see if the dress fits her baby very well. It turns out, the shirt I borrowed was a little big and so the dress was too baggy for the baby.

So I went back home. Frogged my work. And worked on it again. I used the same design, this time, I made it smaller. It became too small. (Notice the goldilocks themed story here guys. My daughter's been obsessing about the Goldilocks and the Three Bears.) Anyway, I was feeling a bit too low at this point. My work has been by far, useless and needed to be reworked twice already.

And so I reminded myself to not be afraid to start again (basically I've made mistakes twice on this dress, so wth) because you're not starting from scratch, you're starting from experience. And I've experienced failures twice on this dress alone. Lesson clearly learned. Don't forget to bring your tape every time. But seriously, I did not really need to start from scratch on both instances I reworked the dress. It's a good thing the design was worked from the waist up and from the waist down.

I wanted to stick to the original design that my client and I talked about but with the size dilemma, I needed to change it into a more beautiful design. Luckily, she agreed to it. More about it when I complete the entire ensemble. I'm still going to work on the beanie. And besides, this post is about crochet shoes.

I used this pattern for these crochet shoes. But of course, I needed to tweak it a little bit to match the client's request so there's still a bit of a romeskie touch in the design. Also, for the heart design, I used this pattern but used different stitches to match the sizing and the yarn that I am using.

Compared to the dress, the challenge I met for these crochet shoes is the sizing. You know, when you make two of the same things, you got to make sure their sizes match. Especially when those two items are the left and right shoe. So to address this, I crocheted both soles simultaneously. And crocheted and frogged (and frogged again) both soles over and over and over until I have perfectly (almost) matching soles. And success! And they have met their solemates!

They look like doll shoes, it got me super excited that even after all the frogging is done, I was able to finish this really quick. After the test fitting, it fits perfectly to the baby's little feet.

So that's done. I'm just finishing up the upper part of the dress, and the beanie just needs a little bit more tweaking, and we're done!
