Hello my dear needleworkers and to my newfound Hive family here. Since we're all under home quarantine, I find it best to find something to do to keep myself busy. I thought of continuing with an old project for our pastime and that is DIY paper mache . We have lots of piled notebooks that can be used. I planned to make a circular pattern to be used for my crocheted pouch as you can see on the above photos.

You only need the following materials, re:

  • Water-based Laundry starch
  • Scratch papers
  • Bottle\Can for pattern
  • Plastic bag.
    First prepare your pattern maker. I used plastic cannester for my pattern then wrapped it with plastic. The purpose is that it would be easier to pull the paper mache afterwards. Simply mix the starch with water to make a paste. Paste the paper all over the area on each piece to form a cylinder. Stop until the desired thickness is done. Let it dry until it's hard enough. You may paint it with different colors too.

Actually, it's for multi-purpose usage. I can insert it in my pouch to make it more presentable and it's easy to transfer to another pouch if the other need some washing.

There, that's my other crocheted pouch with the paper vase inside. When not in use, you can use it as a pen/pencil holder or whatever you want.

That's Antonia's finished product. She painted it with pastels for her pencil case as well.

That's all for now guys, I have more DIY's next week.
Thanking @needlework along with @shanibeer, @muscara and @marblely for initiating this needlework community.

Till then,
@Sarimanok

Interesting, to combine paper maché with crocheting :)

Indeed, it is. It will make the pouch firm and well formed as well, right? The thing is, if you attached a permanent lining with your crocheted pouch, it takes a long time to let it dry. On the other hand, it served the purpose of recycling scratch papers. Next time, I guess a miniature paper mache tissue box will be my next target with crocheted lace. How's that. Thanks for your immediate reply. God bless and keep safe!

The thick flowery crochet is lovely and the idea to combine paper mache with needlework... very cool!

Thanks dear, just making use of our resources instead of throwing it away. Actually, I can make a sack of briquettes out of those bunch of notebooks since their high school days! My white pouch needs constant washing and that paper pouch is removable so it served the purpose.

I had to laugh 😂 ‚sack of briquettes‘ 😂😂😂 But before you burn the notebooks, better make more pouches or vases or some other artworks ...😆
I wish you happy Easter and hope you have a bit of free time with loved ones.
