Hello there needleworkers! How are you all today? Here's my entry for today. It's a crocheted bag with a ooden handle. The thread is quite thick but I don't know the name. It's like a thin flat cord. Actually, it was shipped by my late hubby when he was still working in California. I was so excited to make a bag out of it though it was really a stuggle on my part since the thread was thick and I preferred to have a single chain to make it sturdy. My bad... but I only have myself to blame though the result was good.

The circumference is about 27 inches and it went on and on until I ran out of thread. I had the plain one in dark blue which I made for the base in oval shape. It was supposed to be a tube bag but I changed my mind. The good thing is that when you make the body, the base actually does the final shaping.

I've managed to lock the ends. The sad thing was that I couldn't arrive into a fixed decision on what to do next.

IMG_20201123_085903.jpg

You see, I couldn't decide whether to put on a zipper or not and what kind of handle I would invent to match my creation! In times such as this, I do not proceed with it until there's something that sparks in my mind. That is the main reason why it was in my 'hidden treasures' for a decade. Imagine that! I guess you agree with me when there are moments that you just couldn't reach to final decisions of what you're doing. For me, I have lots of them in my box! lol!

Well, I only look for them when I already have something in mind and this is one of those days.

At last, I decided to place a wooden handle for my handy bag instead of making a shoulder bag because in my own opinion, it just wouldn't fit.

I made a temporary stitching so I can see how it would look like before I make the final closing. It's good that I have a white thread that matched with it.

Now, the thread went along well...

Then I crocheted tiny buds for little accent.

Will that be okay now? I still couldn't decide whether to put on a zipper or not so I preferred to let it stay that way until I can decide on what to use to close it. Perhaps I can crochet a little patch later. I have a rounded coconut buckle but I don't think it will match the wooden handle. For the maintime, it will be that way until I can find the right material. It will look good in flat structure as shown above or with angle as shown below.

See, it looks nice too. With all the uncertainties, I have finally created her and I love the result! A little natural plastic varnish will do for the wooden handle but I like it that way though. I think I will give it to Antonia's mom as her Christmas present when she comes home after 8 long months of being locked down in Cebu!

I hope you like it guys! Thanks for dropping by and my special to @crosheille, @shanibeer, @muscara, @marblely and @neumannsalva.

Till then,

I’m glad I'm not the only one who has unfinished projects sitting in the back of the cupboard for ages. I think you've beat my record with a decade, though! 🤣

Hahaha! Indeed my dear. In fact, I even have unfinished cross-stitch works, all half done or almost done! Would you believe that I still have that "Lady of the Thread" when I was still conceiving with my first born? I missed the counting so it was never done. Maybe I'll have it framed finished or unfinished! 😀

I have embroidery threads from a cross stitch I started before I had children, so maybe 20+ years ago. At some point, after children, I lost all the labelling, so I was never going to finish it and the fabric got disposed of during our move to Australia but I kept the threads. I've only recently started using them.

Me, I lost the pattern though they can be retrieved via the internet but it's hard how to start with the finished marks, right? You can start all over again dear. It's worth it!

Such an interesting yarn... the color changes are fascinating and the wooden handle was the perfect choice for your bag, I think the wood lends it a lovely sturdiness. And with the zipper... I think it would make the bag secured but not sure if you need this and it would be a lot of work to fit the zipper (I guess, I am not too good with zipper)

Thanks. I am planning to have a wooden oval shape button for the lock though I still need to do some 'digging' lol! Actually, it's easy to put on a zipper since it's my forte. You only need to detach the end on the bottom part so you can sew it separately. Afterwards, you can insert the slider and sew/close it back.

Wow, this is looks amazing. I can image all the patience needed to finish a work like this. That, and all the skills and precision to use the needles. I once saw one of my teachers making a scarf and I was amaze and the steady movements and calmness from her hands. I don't know much about techniques in this but I bet using a thick thread is as challenging as working with hard wood. Again, some amazing work. 👏

You're right. It needs a lot of patience especially that the thread is thick hence I chose to make bag out of it because of its sturdy texture. Honestly, I almost gave up but the show must go on. See, it took years before I finally finished it! It was an accomplishment;)

I can see that. And yes, there are moments when one's momentum falters, but getting new strength pays its worth with amazing results like this. I'm glad you decided to see the project through and now you have a brand new bag made by yourself.

Nicely done, Sis. Another beautiful needlework added to your bag collections. Your instinct really led you to decide on what to do and truly the outcome is awesome! I love it!
