Greetings to all Needleworkers and Hiveians out there! It's raining hard as of now so I hope that our electrical powers will cooperate with me despite the heavy rains! As you can see on the above photos, I've just accomplished a beautiful handy bag from my brocade center piece! I bought this at a rummage stall for future use and now is the right time for its transformation!

Materials Used

1). An old bag - Leatherettes tend to chip when they're not in use. I removed the linings, the zippers and the handles for my project. I usually do this when I discard old chipped bags. In making bags, see to it that you put some linings on it to make it durable and neat looking inside.

I divided the cloth into two. I do not cut it right aways. I do the calculations first and and estimate each piece needed. I set aside two straight strips for the wrapping of handles and another part for the side padding.

You are free to choose the right size of your bag according to available materials that you have. This time, I did an 11.5 x 10 inches pattern. Join each piece from the middle. The strip fitted well. Take note that the lining should be thesame with the top coverv to avoid unbalanced corners.

Take note:

  • Cover the handles first before attachment.*

  • Attach the zippers first prior to putting it up together.**

  • Join the lining after the zipper is attached. Following this sequence will give a fine and neat finish.

  • The padding will be the last part.

  • Cover the edge with bias strips or bias tape to make a clean finish.

This is now my finished product! I hope you liked it guys. My pattern is easy to follow so don;t hesitate to grab your scissors and start making your own handy bag!

Thank you for dropping by and thank you ladies:for this awesome community, re: @crosheille, @muscara, @marblely and @neumannsalva. Any comment from you is highly appreciated. God bless you guys!

Till then,

@Sarimanok

I still have not tried to make bag myself, although I really could need one (for my knitting projects) and your explanation is really helpful, especially the list at the end where you give all the important advices.
Your bag came out so nice and the fabric looks very expensive and elegant. Reusing the handles and the zipper is very clever because a friend who sometimes also makes bags told me they are very expensive if nought new.
Lovely work.

Thank you! You can make a pouch out of knitting too. In fact it will look lovely with some knitting techniques. I promise myself that I will be able to learn knitting within this year. Lol! I actually do this like removing the linings and zipper everytime I discard old chipped bags. Because they're different from ordinary zippers used for clothing.
Thanks for dropping by my friend. It meant a lot to me.

Ohh so exciting if you start to learn knitting, the beginning may seem slow, but beware you get addicted to it really fast :-DDD

Hey @sarimanok! You did an incredible work of transformation here. I love seeing useful things get a new life to be enjoyed longer. I really love the fabric you chose too.

I am sorry I haven’t come around to visit your post lately. It’s not because I don’t think your work is beautiful, it’s because right now there are only two active admins and it’s been a bit hectic trying to get everything done.

I’m sure you’ve noticed the many new members we have sharing with us now every week. We have been working around the clock trying to make sure everyone is welcomed and feels at home just as we did for all of our veteran members like you. 😊

We are also trying to spread around the NeedleWorkMonday account votes as well as the ocd incubation nominations. We just ask that you please be patient with us as we figure out and find ways to keep things rolling smoothly for the community and to please know we haven’t forgotten about you. 😉

Thankfully we have our Community Builder team who has been doing a wonderful job helping us welcome our new members.

Sending my love and hugs your way ~ ❤️

Of course! Your presence here and dedication for writing doesn’t go unnoticed. I really appreciate you and what you contribute.

No, no your work isn’t horrible. I’m so sad you thought this.

Thank you for your prayers. It is not easy but I still really enjoy it all. I know we will continue to go strong and figure things out. Thanks ~
