NWM|| I Made Exclusive Crochet Gloves

Hello everyone ✨

It's yet another Monday and a lovely day to share our needlework in the #needleworkmonday community with fellow needlework lovers. Today, I would be sharing something a little out of the ordinary.

For a while, I've thought hard on a full clothing design I would love to make for myself. Would it be a skirt and top? Or a gown? I just wanted to make a full crochet outfit that was decent enough to be worn in public. After a while of thinking, I finally came up with a three piece crochet idea.

IMG_20230813_190344_849~2.jpg

As the name implies, the outfit would be divided into three sections; the gloves, the skirt and the blouse. The picture I have in my head of this three piece is that of elegance. Gloves have a way of making a lady look elegant and so I opted to make that first.

I would be sharing with you the process of making these gloves.

IMG_20230814_074433_571~2.jpg

I used a 4.5mm hook to make the glove. First off, I measured the length of my arms since I wanted long gloves. From there, I went ahead to sketch a little design on a piece of paper.

With the sketch, I got to work. For the first four rows, I used half double crochet. I graduated to double crochets and then I made mesh stitches. To give the finishing touch a little more beauty and coordination, I decided to end with two rows of double crochets.

While stitching the sides of the gloves, I ensured that I created loops to fit my thumbs. Since these gloves can fit anyone, I decided to add an adjustable chain at the top. This is to aid comfort. In case a person with smaller arms decides to try the glove on, they could always adjust it to fit their arm.
IMG_20230814_074419_488~2.jpg

The process of making these gloves was a fun process. This was because I tasked myself to finish with both hands in one day and I did! Yayy. After making the gloves, I tried them on to see if they could fit . For about an hour or two, I didn't want to take them off as they felt really comfortable.

IMG_20230814_092659_596~2.jpg

Soon enough, I should be sharing with the community the crochet top that compliments these gloves:). I'm still contemplating on the form or shape the crochet top is going to take but I guess I will figure something out soon.

To the colour of the outfit. I actually had an entirely different colour in mind but as I got to the yarn store, they had only a few of that colour left. As a rookie crocheter, I've learnt one lesson and that is "do not buy small units of a yarn for a large project" why? Because the next time you return to purchase the same colour of yarn, chances of seeing the exact colour would be really slim. The next best colour was wine colour and so far, I'm loving the colour.

I would have really loved to have this photoshoot outside in the presence of nature but it has been raining cats and dogs since morning. Leaving me with no other option than my lovely flowery patterned chair.

You are probably wondering why I used three different stitches for one set of gloves. This is because I wanted my gloves to be really unique and outstanding. I took a quick surf through the net and I noticed that most of the gloves on the net had just one stitch. Being exclusive is one attribute that I like to uphold.

What part of the gloves do you like the most? The colour or the stitches? I would totally love to hear your views on these gloves and suggestions for the upcoming projects:)

Have a wonderful Monday

Wongi ✨

I love both the colour and the stitch, I'm already thinking of a bodycon gown that will go with these gloves 🙂

Say what?! Girl you are Rocking those gloves. This bring fingerless gloves to a whole new level. I’ve never seen crocheted gloves this long, I love them!! The color, stitches and the style. Wongi you are truly one that would do so well bringing exclusive crocheted clothing wear to the surface.

Even without a top and skirt to match these would be awesome to help bring flare to any outfit. Thanks for sharing ~ 😍

We await the continuation of your vision!

I love wrist gauntlets in cold days

It was a really cold day today and for a moment I was glad I made them 😅. I'm glad you like the concept behind the gloves.

If you eventually make gauntlets with crochets, I would totally love to see it☺️✨

Incredible work, I'm always impressed when someone crochets a piece, in my head it's something so complicated and difficult, but you did it with enormous accuracy and stunning beauty!

I was impressed with your talent, congratulations! #dreemerforlife

Okayyy...I'm loving this style. Looks pretty elegant, and it's brilliant.

Not sure what other color would have sufficed, but the wine pops just fine for me.
How much does a wool cost now? Or what is it called? The last I remember, it was 100 Naira.

I wish wools are still N100, I would probably have a full closet of crochet items. The wools I use cost N450 right now. I hope it doesn't increase.🤧

And I'm glad you like the style. Thank you ✨

I must admit the colour! Which of course matches your colourful clothes, but the stitches are pretty cool and the end product looks funky! Oh and your hair looks gorgeous too!

10/10 wee wongi!

😍Oh, it looks so cute! I can picture it with the complete outfit. I’d love to see the full look. For your question, I love the stitches more.

do not buy small units of a yarn for a large project"

Yes! I learnt this the hard way some time last year when I was crocheting a dress and didn’t get enough yarn. When I ordered more to finish the piece, the colours that came were a shade darker. Luckily, I was able to work my way round it by alternating with what was left of the previous yarn and the new ones.

I’m looking forward to the complete outfit so I’ll be checking in.

Oh lovely. I'm glad you liked the stitches too. I was a bit indecisive about the stitches but if you like them, then that good news😌

I’m looking forward to the complete outfit so I’ll be checking in.

I would be dropping the second piece of the outfit by Monday and I would love to see you around.

Thank you so much for stopping by☺️.
