Crafting 4 Christmas | Part 12 | Upcycling a failed craft project | DIY

Crafting 4 Christmas part 12.png

Introduction

Everyone that has spent some time drawing/painting/crafting probably knows this situation where you start something and in the end, it turns out totally different as you envisioned it because the first (or second haha) attempt of this new technique is not turning out the way you like it.

It's ok when it happens, even though it's sad you spent this time on something that you envisioned differently. I personally don't throw away these things usually, because I always hope that I find another purpose for the item and maybe can decorate it with something different.

This part of Crafting 4 Christmas is one of these failed art projects that I didn't want to throw out and decided to redecorate it as a Christmas ornament.

This is where the failed project ended, and the new project started:

I was totally lost as the decoupage technique clearly didn't work out as I had in mind, so I couldn't find new inspiration from this point on. When I used some black gesso for another art project, I decided to paint this bottle with the black gesso as well to save myself the trouble of removing the napkins that were glued on this bottle.

And that's where the new project started. Let's see the steps below.

The steps of my recycling project

I thought I should use silver paint on this black painted bottle. It was quite hard painting on this bottle because as I mentioned, there was a layer with napkins still on the bottle. The surface wasn't even and I also picked some wrong brushes. I wondered if I could eventually make something nice from it which I would use for decoration. Let's see below:

Some more paintings and I decided I'd take another route: decorating with ribbon and some Christmas applications.

The silver alone wasn't working for me, so I decided to add red paint, and see how I'd like that..

Unfortunately, when it dried it was not the result I desired. Time to add some snow and a Christmas tree in between the 2 Santa applications. I started adding some black paint in the hope these colors would be more visible.

The colors were now popping a bit more and I decided to call it done because I felt that the more paint I was adding, the harder it was because of the napkin layer. My daughter liked it, so it's now one of our Christmas ornaments. This is the end result:

Not my best project lol, but at least there are a few funny things on the bottle. Did you notice the two Santa applications are slipping in the snow? And having a hard time not to break a leg. At least I managed to put some humor in this #recycle #upcycle #diy project. Lol.

Oh that makes me happy @stevenson7 .. I didn't want the effort go to waste, I really hate that. and after all it's used for decoration anyway. Not all things can work out as we envisioned right? :) Thanks for your support!

Not all things can work out as we envisioned right?

Right. Sometimes what we envisioned is not always the best, but what we stumble into.

Have a great week ahead.
