Billy Gibbons - Illustration made in the traditional way

Hace unos meses estuve reviviendo mi serie favorita Bones, recuerdo que me enganche con ella desde su inicio en el año 2005, yo tenía apenas quince años y la seguí hasta su final con 12 temporadas en total. Pero además de la trama, esta serie me fascina mucho más por tener algunos personajes invitados fabulosos, tales como Cindy Lauper y Billy Gibbons, artistas que me encantan.

A few months ago I was reliving my favorite series Bones, I remember that I got hooked on it since its beginning in 2005, I was only fifteen years old and I followed it until its end with 12 seasons in total. But besides the plot, this series fascinates me much more for having some fabulous guest characters, such as Cindy Lauper and Billy Gibbons, artists that I love.

En esta oportunidad compartiré esta ilustración de Billy Gibbons uno de los integrantes de la banda ZZ TOP, si bien el dibujo tiene algún tiempo ya creado, he estado escuchando sus canciones toda esta semana por lo que decidí compartirla finalmente.

In this opportunity I will share this illustration of Billy Gibbons one of the members of the band ZZ TOP, although the drawing has some time already created, I have been listening to their songs all this week so I decided to share it finally.

Recordando que ZZ TOP es una banda estadounidense de blues rock y hard rock formada en 1969 en Houston, Texas. Compuesta por Dusty Hill, Frank Beard y Billy Gibbons, una de las cosas que caracteriza a esta banda son las barbas tan particulares que llevan dos de sus integrantes, es casi como su firma.

Remembering that ZZ TOP is an American blues rock and hard rock band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. Composed by Dusty Hill, Frank Beard and Billy Gibbons, one of the things that characterizes this band are the very particular beards worn by two of its members, it is almost like their signature.

Entonces no podía faltar una ilustración de por lo menos alguno de ellos, y siendo Billy quien apareció en la serie Bones fue el más indicado. Antes de crearla primero visualicé el estilo y los colores que deseaba darle, primero imaginé hacerla en tonos de grafito, solo dándole color a la barba, pero luego me dije que sería genial darle un estilo caricatura genial para sublimar en una franela.

So I couldn't miss an illustration of at least one of them, and being Billy who appeared in the series Bones was the most appropriate. Before creating it I first visualized the style and colors I wanted to give it, first I imagined doing it in graphite tones, just giving color to the beard, but then I said to myself that it would be great to give it a cool cartoon style to sublimate on a flannel.

El primer paso es trabajar el boceto,siempre me tomo algún tiempo, luchando con los trazos para llegar al que más logre un parecido, dado que trabajo con trazos garabateados, finalmente acentúo las líneas más adecuadas y quito el exceso.

The first step is to work on the sketch, I always take some time, struggling with the strokes to reach the one that most resembles, since I work with scribbled strokes, finally I accentuate the most appropriate lines and remove the excess.

Posteriormente hago un delineado poco pronunciado, como he mencionado en diversas ocasiones, suelo hacer esto porque no será el delineado final. El siguiente paso es aplicar el color, el cual logré con un poco de lápiz de grafito y luego lo maticé con un poco de color piel, dando detalles con marcadores del mismo tono. La barba dió un poco de trabajo debido al color, no quería dejarla tan naranja por lo que la mantuve con diversos matices, amarillo, naranja y un poco de bronce.

Then I do a little pronounced eyeliner, as I have mentioned on several occasions, I usually do this because it will not be the final eyeliner. The next step is to apply the color, which I did with a little bit of graphite pencil and then I matted it with a little bit of skin color, giving details with markers of the same tone. The beard gave a little work because of the color, I didn't want to leave it so orange so I kept it with different shades, yellow, orange and a little bronze.

Agregué detalles en su pequeño y particular gorro, dándole tonos pasteles muy bonitos, como paso final, agregué un segundo delineado, para que se viera más intenso, además con un color negro di volumen en algunas zonas, no demasiado, no era mi intención sobrecargar, además es una ilustración pequeña. Pero a pesar de su sencillez me encantó, parece ser un tipo de pegatina. Siempre es increíble que existan estos detalles en tus series de televisión, le agregan un valor enorme a las ilustraciónes, porque tienen un tipo de historia diferente detrás de su creación y es muy gracioso que cuando las estás haciendo puedes escuchar sus melodías o recordar los episodios y siempre traen un tipo de sonrisa peculiar a tu rostro.

I added details in his particular little hat, giving it very nice pastel tones, as a final step, I added a second outline, to make it look more intense, also with a black color I gave volume in some areas, not too much, it was not my intention to overload, besides it is a small illustration. But despite its simplicity I loved it, it seems to be a kind of sticker. It's always amazing that there are these details in your TV series, they add a huge value to the illustrations, because they have a different kind of story behind their creation and it's very funny that when you are doing them you can listen to their melodies or remember the episodes and they always bring a kind of peculiar smile to your face.

Espero que les guste, tanto como me gustó a mi crearla hace algún tiempo, mientras revivía mi serie favorita.

I hope you like it, as much as I enjoyed creating it some time ago, while reliving my favorite series.
