A Mountain of Flesh - Flesh Golem: Splinterlands Weekly Challenge

Introduction

Hey fellow summoners,
This week, CarrieAllen announced that the monster of the week is going to be about the Flesh Golem. Flesh Golem is a Beta/Alpha Card and it is one of the most expensive commons out there, competing for the top with Crustacean King. This is because it is one of the most useful commons, being the main tank for up until diamond/champion league. And even in the top leagues, it is still constantly used in medium/low mana battles.

So let's jump into this week's weekly challenge about the Flesh GOLEM!

Card Levels

Flesh Golem is one of those cards whose health fluctuates a lot between levels (Hey that is kinda like bitcoin). Flesh Golem starts off at level 1 as a already very decent mid mana tank. When it levels up at level 3 for ONLY 5 copies of it, it gets Heal. Now Heal with Flesh Golem is very OP since it is low mana and the monster has super high health meaning it heals 3 health per turn. This makes it very hard to deal with in low mana matches in the lower leagues. It is also super cheap to level up to that level since it is a beta/alpha card. After that, the costs get exponentially higher with max level costing 101x as much as level 3. UNTAMED solves this problem a little bit with only it being 28.6x as much.
Flesh Golem does gain extra health and attack which make it super useful so upgrading it is certainly worth it!

Ruleset

image.png

So the ruleset for this match is Lost Legendary which means we can not use legendary monsters. The mana cap is small/medium so Flesh Golem would be ideal for this situation. Water is an available splinter in this battle too and people then to either go with water or earth in these low mana fights. (Death too but it is easier to deal with)

Monsters and Summoners

Prince Ryenn

image.png

Yeah yeah, I get that it is on the low side mana-wise but I play zaku in this mana so why not Ryenn? Ryenn also gives really useful buffs which I enjoy.

Flesh Golem

image.png

Was going to put in Failed Summoner since it is a good tank and lower mana than Flesh Golem but hey, it is Flesh Golem week so let's make him shine on the first position!

Furious Chicken

image.png

When you are short on mana, this is the go-to for a cheap meatshield and oppertunity blast bait.

Swamp Thing

image.png

Cheap support with mediocre health and good damage. Very useful in low mana matches.

Grenadier

image.png

One of the new card and a beast through and through. Super good at damage dealing in low mana matches and a good counter to GCubes, Peaceful Giants, and Lord A.

Tower Griffin

It is a nice cheap damage dealer with the flying ability and the protect ability making it pretty useful in battles.

Battle Analysis

Turn 1

image.png

So my opponent is playing the magic alric team. A magic team is usually very good in low mana battles because magic does a lot of damage and it can attack both in the back and in first position.

For the first turn, I immediately took out his Chicken using my Golem and Tower Griffin. His Mischievous mermaid attack my flesh golem but its void ability reduced the damage taken by 2. My Grenadier hit his spineback turtle and blasted the Mischievous Mermaid. The Medusa hit my flesh golem for 2 damage after a 2 damage reduction thanks to void. The Crustacean King and the Spineback Turtle then also attack my Flesh Golem.

Turn 2

image.png

My tower griffin starts the turn off by reducing the Spineback Turtle's health to 3. My Flesh Golem heals to 11 health and hits the Spineback Turtle and kills it but gets Thorned in the process. Mischievous Mermaid hits my Flesh Golem with its reduced damage and my Grenadier takes it out and Blasts the Crustacean King. The Medusa also does a reduced damage to my flesh golem leaving it at 4 health. Swamp thing managed to knock the armor off of the Crustacean King.

Turn 3

My tower griffin immediately takes out the Crustacean King leaving the Medusa on her on. The Flesh Golem and Grenadier managed to finish it off and net a win for me.

Conclusion

Flesh Golem is an absolute beast when use correctly. Even though Failed Summoner would still be super good in this situation, the role Flesh Golem played as my Anti-Magic tank proved vital for this win. My verdict on this monster is that even though it is still rare to see Flesh Golem in Champion leagues since it gets replaced by monsters such as Failed Summoner, it is still a super good tank when used at the correct time.

Thank you guys for reading my post and be sure to always BATTLE ON!
