Pocket Change Surprise - Silver???

One Has To Love A Good Pocket Change Surprise

I had gone to the drugstore for a few items and paid with cash. I was handed change and almost immediately noticed this familiar noise as I was handed my change. If you don’t know what I am talking about, place a silver coin in with your nickel and copper changes and giggle it around. Silver has a distinct ringing tone to it when it clanks against other silver or metal.

I placed the change into my pocket .. and couldn’t wait to check for my surprise. When I arrived home I was thrilled! It was definitely silver, but what? Take a look at the photo and see if your keen eye can spot it right away. As a hint.. I love our Canadian neighbors.

How about now? See it? Still no?? Okay, let me move it closer to the top of the heap.

There ya go! You have to be able to pick it out now. Hehe. Sure enough it was silver I was hearing. A 1955 Canadian Quarter. And a beauty at that. How can these coins still be floating around in circulation? And how did the store clerk not know it had more value than they thought? There loss was my gain.

The coin isn’t in that bad of condition either .. for being a circulated coin. Maybe I could get $6 to $10 USD for it, but that’s not happing. It’s going into my coin stack. So exciting! I don’t find many silver coins anymore. Those days are long gone I think. Today was a real surprise.

Found something else in the mix too. A bicentennial Washington Quarter. Not worth anything, but still fun to see them turn up now and again.

I love that they probably thought they were unloading worthless Canadian coinage, but you came out ahead!

That sound is so distinctive. Nice change grab. That has zero numismatic value in that condition though. They are only 80% silver making them stronger then our 90% stuff. There are tons of those is better condition. Still it’s silver and it’s worth more then $.25

I love that sound! Yeah zero numismatic value, but yeah worth more that 25 cents. 😁

Being Canadian I couldn't miss the first portrait of the young queen Elizabeth who was crowned in the 1954 just the year before too.
0.800 Silver 25 cents than would be handy for Emergency Commerce.
It's a bit odd but we also commonly use the colloquial Quarter here too thought it is legally termed as 25 Cents.

Stacking in every way, @bdmillergallery

You have all the good facts. I should just let you write my posts .. hehehe. I'll hang on to her. I think I have a few other .800 Canadian silver coins somewhere. Why not keep it. 😁

Thanks for showing bdmiller - @bdmillergallery. I am always on the lookout for (95%) copper cents & five cents nickels. Their intrinsic value exceeds the denomination.

I remember those old Moose quarters! And I remember always really liking them, probably because those were what the tooth fairy brought. If I was really lucky she would bring a "Quarter Horse," or a 1973 quarter with a Mountie on it for their centennial.

And lookit the queen. I think I never realised that she was once young.

Hehehe.. The good old days. So much has changed, including my dental bills come in the form of actual bills (invoices) and not currency (under the pillow type). Bummer. Sounds like you have some fond memories of loosing teeth. lol 😆 😁

Hah! Maybe not so much of losing teeth, but gaining money out of it. If only I knew enough to save that money for dental bills, too!

It has been years now since I heard that sound! I think the last silver coin I got in my change was a war nickel.

And war nickels are harder to hear. I haven't found a war nickel in 20 years. The good old days are over. So when I found this one it was super exciting! 😁

Hmm.. you still use coins? Not bad at all. I thought most people stopped paying in cash. Lucky you.. hope you get more of those.

I use cash from time to time. 90% of the time it's credit card. So I guess when I look at it that way, it is even more impressive that I received it given the low odds. lol

That is pretty good luck I would say.. hope you get more silver coins.

I am so late on this! I actually get a fair amount of silver at small little town stores where I always pay cash. Hardware stores or little stores that don't check their bins often. When I say a fair amount, every time I go on a trip, I almost always come home with a coin or two.

It does sound different! It sounds like money, honey! The real deal. :)
