2000 Silver Lunar Year of the Dragon: Silver Dragon Coins Part 7

(Edited)

Happy Monday, Hivers and Silver Gold Stackers!

Continuing on with this article series, let us look at (what I think is) the very first silver dragon coin produced by the Perth Mint.

I love this coin. Not only is it a millennium coin, but it also depicts a favorite mythical creature- the dragon.

The dragon is the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac, it is also one of the most popular in the entire Lunar coin series.

2000 Australia 1 oz Silver Year of the Dragon BU (Series I)

Sovereign coin backed by the Australian government. Contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver.

REVERSE: Designed by Tony Dean, the coin features a traditional Chinese dragon as a long, scaled and serpentine creature with four legs, a ‘pearl of wisdom’ and the Chinese character for ‘dragon’.

OBVERSE: The Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, purity of .999 fine Silver and the monetary denomination are shown.

As of last night, the 2000 1 oz Silver Year of the Dragon BU Series I is still available for $109.99

The 2000 Australia 1 oz Silver Year of the Dragon was the second release in the first 12 coin Lunar series. The next Lunar Dragon was produced 12 years after in 2012.

Stay tuned for the next silver dragon coin in this series!

Yeah... I love them. Hehehe, when I was younger I after reading much about my Lunar year creature, I'd imagine myself having all the great qualities of a Fire Dragon. I was borne in the Year of the Fire Dragon... the strongest of all dragons. Do you believe in such things as horoscopes, and in the Chinese belief that your character is according to the Lunar sign if your birth year? What is your Lunar animal, my friend @melinda010100?
Have a great Monday, and take care my dear @melinda010100 🥰🌺🤙

I knew that I was born in the year of the Horse because I read it on the placemat at the Chinese restaurant! Until you asked I had no idea that I was born in the year of the Wood Horse. I guess I neither believe or disbelieve, I just have never followed my horoscope very closely.

Hehehe... one can never have too many gold and silver... so any would do, my friend. My problem in the past is (and still persists to the present), I get so attracted to the new designs. I promised myself to stack sensibly this year, So far so good... not out od the cuff purchases, except that two of our friends started pouring. You know that hand-poured silver is my weakness. I've crossed hand-poured silver off my list for this year. Then I said, okay, I shall make an exception and get me a piece from each from new pourers.... and I am not doing so well following that restriction. I really have to re-visit my motivations and understand why I cannot be disciplined in that area. And June is a great time to do it as we are now half-way through the year 2020.
Oh my... sorry for the long reply. Gosh 😑
Have a wonderful day, and take care, my friend @silvertop 🥰🌺🤙

How did we get halfway through 2020!😳 @silversaver888 at least if you have “ Weaknesses“ they are shiny precious metal weaknesses LOL!🤗
I feel bad for people who are spending their money on fluff, and the hand poured silver is beautiful!😊
How is the corona down by you, I am hearing stories that the numbers are rising in California.....
Be safe my friend have a very nice beginning of your week!🥰🥰😊

Do you know that is coin is slightly smaller than the 2012 version. When you see the side by side of the Lunar 2 Dragon, you will be able to tell that this one is the older coin, not for the quality because this 2000 is perfect and impeccably stunning ..my photos are not good, but for the design. The 2012 looks slightly modern. And I wonder what the 2024 Dragon will look like.
Have a lovely day, sweet sis @elizabethbit.Take care 🥰🌺🤙, lots of hugs and love 🤗💕.

I am sure the 2024 dragon will be fabulous, I am sure. I long for a LCS that you could just walk in and browse! Unfortunately, here, we have one that you can do that with, but they are overpriced for the offering, and the other, they have to buzz you in and take back into a room. It's clandestine which is ok, but you are rushed; you can't browse. Plus of course, the covid isn't helping. Have a wonderful evening my sweet sis and take care! Much love and hugs to you!🤗🤗💕🤗🤗🌸😘

I have not been to an LCS for ages! That's a go-to- place for US Constitutional coins that I stack regularly. I am lagging behind with that goal.
My team had to work up to very late last night working, and I am behind!!! And more to do today. I will catch up with you later this evening. 🥰🌺🤙,

Lunar 1 serie was better than II and now III. I know where to buy complete silver or gold lunar sets (most sizes) but at a high premium of course. Aschhoff edelmetalle in Germany is THE party to buy these from. They also buy for good price.

I've heard so much about this supplier from Germany. And if I recall, most of the display cases for the Lunar 1 and 2 by YT stackers were purchased from them. Have you had experience with them? What about shipping?
I am not a collector really. I have no need for sets of coins. I get one coin at a time, and usually, they are the bullion coins from government mints, just to avoid the boredom of stacking ASE, which is the foundation of my stack. But the years go by, and viola... I have the years of release set! And I do not buy high premium coins. I don't have the Lunar Year 1 set, except for this Dragon... and I got my first month I started stacking... because I was born the Year of the Dragon. I started stacking at about the tail end of the Lunar 2, but was able to get the 2012 Dragon at a very very good price, so I have that one too. With this NEW Lunar calendar, I now have the opportunity to start a collection of Lunar Series 3 coins. It will take 12 years to do that, hahaha! I already have the 2020 silver mouse in 3 sizes. I don't have the 5 oz yet. Sorry... long reply, can you tell that I want to talk about stacking? This is how I keep motivated to keep going. I don't even know if you will read my reply, LOL!
Have a great day, my friend @goldrooster. Take care 🥰🌺🤙.

I think this very coin epitomizes this series of cons and the series itself put the Perth mint on the map of the numismatic world. Many from this series command a hefty collectors premium today.
Great Choice Sis!
Always, with love 🌺 💝 🌹 💓 🌸 🌼

I think you are right, sis. Of the three long-running series, the Kookaburra first released in 1990, the Lunar Series ist release in 1999, and the Koala that started 2007, it is the Lunar Series that distinguished the Perth Mint. Hindsight, I am glad to have started the SWAN (which I showed yesterday). Getting the first one in 2017 was a fortunate mistake.
Have a beautiful day (of rest from work), my lovely sis @kerrislravenhill. Take care 🥰🌺🤙, lots of love💓💝 and a million and one Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!

Yeah, it is a different design every year for the bullion Dragon bar-coin. t is a double dragon this year. I wonder what it will be next year. They will soon release that in a few months. Have you seen the silver Swans I showed last Sunday? Do you have those? Well I suppose... and probably you have 2 of each, lol!
Have a great day, my friend @djohan, and take care 🥰🌺🤙
