A 1888 Morgan Dollar on a Magnificent Monday: My 1888 Coins, Part 1

(Edited)

Happy Monday, Hivers and Stackers! What makes your Monday magnificent?

Last week, a fellow stacker, @silverd510, showed a Morgan Dollar on a Monday! He has an extensive collection of graded and raw Morgan Dollars, which I think he will once again be showing us every Monday under another of his new tags #MorganMonday.

@ronavel is another member of the #silvergoldstackers community and an avid collector of coins that includes graded Morgan Dollars. Between the two of them, @silver510 and @ronavel may just have the coins for all the years that the United States Mint produced the Morgan US Dollar from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921.

I am not a collector of coins and most of the US Dollars that I possess are circulated versions. I do have a small collection of Mint State US Peace Dollars because the Peace Dollar is my favorite of the US Dollar coins.

Last year I showed an 1888 coin sent to me as a bonus coin by stacker @stokjockey who is in the business of flipping precious metals. It was a coin of interest because it bears the triple 8 number. It was then that my lovely and brilliant stacking sister @kerrislravenhill suggested that I should start collecting 1888 year-dated coins. In fact, my sis @kerrislravenhill gifted me with an 1888 coin early this year.

Today, being #MorganMonday, would be a great start a new series of articles for my blog: SilverSaver888's 1888 Coins. You guessed right...

1888 US Morgan Dollar Brilliant Uncirculated

132 year-old coin raw specimen by the Philadelphia Mint

😍 #ilikeitalot!😍

I bought this coin primarily for the mint date of 1888. It was sold as Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coin. I am not versed in grading, but I found this description from this source that I think describes the quality and condition of my 1888 Morgan Dollar coin. How to Grade Morgan Dollars

You know I have a few of those 1888's too. I'm glad you liked the one, won't say more, I sent you Sis to help start the 1888 Coin series. Makes Collecting Fun!
It also beg's the question of What great things in history happened in 1888?
Always, with love...🌺 💝 🌹 💓 🌸 🌼

Another brilliant idea! Hopefully, I will have the time to research about the great things that happened in the countries of the 1888 coin that I will show on the articles in this series. My standing timelines for writing articles for my blog is one hour... tops, and no more. And taking photos of the coin is the activity that takes most of the time allotted for articles. Another 45 minutes engaging other hivers and responding to comments. I wish there was more minutes in an hour, more hours in a day, LOL!
I hope you are enjoying your day off and rested some, my lovely sis, @kerrislravenhill. Lots of love💓💝 and a million and one Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!

It was very nice to check Hive this morning and find not one but TWO Morgan Silver Dollar post!🤗
How can you not love an uncirculated 132 year old very detailed silver coin!🥰
From the very first BU Morgan that I chiseled out of a plastic paperweight at eight years old, this series has always been a favorite!😊
Can you Imagine living back then when you could actually carry one of these in your pocket and spend them at the store! Have a wonderful day @silversaver888!😍😍😊

Wasn't that so cool, and the silver coins in their pockets produces this high pitch clinking sound that is mesmerizing! So the few 1888 coins I have... it is mind-boggling really to realize that these are all 132 year old coins! Silver and gold have forever been a store of value... I am glad that we are stackers!
Have a lovely evening, my friend @silvertop, and 🥰🌺🤙 !

He's absolutely exquisite! There's just something so Grand about old coins, old not being the right word. When I was a kid, and I mean a little kid I was totally in awe of the Kennedy half dollars. Still am!!

I know you are not a coin collector, but, the light up my eyes!!

It's a beauty!!

I am glad to finally know what silver coin you want! Silver coins can be so addicting... and when one starts to really like silver enough to accumulate then (b=thus becoming a stacker), we say that the person got bitten by the silver bug. My commemorative silver round is the "Welcome to the SIlverbug Island" minted the year I finally understood the whys and the value of stacking. It is part of the Finding the Silverbug Island series.

I was going to just get me a cull 1888, after all, I was just after the mint date, but I know that Morgans are your favorite, and I did not want to disappoint you.

I agree with you. That is why I stack real coins, and since I live in the US, it is the American Silver Eagle, US Constitutional silver, and fractional gold coins... the rest, is just so that I don't get bored, LOL!
Have a great evening, my friend @maddogmike, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

I think you hit the nail with your grading guess. I am 90% sure that it should grade as a MS63, because it is impossible to accurately grade only looking at photos.

Yes, there was a time when a US Silver Dollar was equal to a full day's work. "Another day, another Dollar." Today, an average worker can acquire a circulated one for as little as an hour's work. Get 'em while you still can.
