The 2020 Silver Krugerrand for #WorldCoinWednesday

avatar
(Edited)

A fun way to stack in silver is acquiring the current year release of bullion silver coins from the different world mints as they are released.

These are the 2020 world mint coins I have shown in my blog so far:

  • 2020 Silver Phoenix of South Korea
  • 2020 Rwanda MayFlower Nautical Ounce
  • 2020 China Silver Panda
  • 2020 Australian Silver Dragon
  • 2020 Great Britain Silver Britannia
  • 2020 Silver Kookaburra, 30th Anniversary Coin

  • Continuing on with the 2020 World Mint Coins, I am happy to show you a very recognized world bullion coin in silver.

For more than half a century, the South African Krugerrand coins have been a staple of gold stackers. The 1967 Gold Krugerrand was the first-ever 1 oz gold bullion coin struck for private investors to purchase. For 50 years, the Krugerrand was available a gold bullion series only. In 2017, the South African Mint expanded the series silver coins.

2020 South African 1 oz Silver Krugerrand Coin (BU)

3rd year of issue for the bullion Silver Krugerrand, contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver, face value of 1 Rand (R1) backed by the government of South Africa.

On the reverse face of 2020 South African Silver Krugerrand Coins is the image of a Springbok antelope. This medium-sized antelope is the lone member of its genus and can be found primarily in southern and southwestern Africa.
The obverse of all 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand Coins features the effigy of Paul Kruger. The first elected President of the South African Republic, Kruger had previously served in the Boer armies during the Boer Wars and then participated as a leader in the triumvirate that governed South Africa before the formation of the new republic.

The 2020 Silver Krugerrand is also available in 2 oz size.

The next current year 2020 Silver Coin will be shown on World Coin Wednesday. Stay tuned!

I've really been slacking in my community interactions. I know we've all got our own things going on at the mo, but I promise I'll make of an effort in the future.

Might have some great news coming the communities way soon, so watch this space.

It is like winning a lottery to have you as the first comment on my article, dude! I sure miss your visits. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. My auto-votes are paused trying to recoup. It should be back up soon. I, too, have time constraints, so the places I go to see out our SGS family member articles is our community page and the unmoderated SGS tag feed. And I miss you there as well. But once my auto-vote is on, I shall be able to support your blogging efforts because my vote will find you whichever community frontend you use.
Have a great week, my friend @welshstacker, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

We are never in a hurry to stack the current year coin... but closer to the end of the year, it is good to get them before the next year's version is released, is what I think. Slow and steady, my friend @silvergoldhunter!
Have a great day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

This coin may be Iconic but I've always wondered why indicate it as a little "R 1" rather than "ONE RAND".
Anyone with an explanation?
Just Curious about the Krug Sis.
Always, with Love ...🌺 💝 🌹 💓 🌸 🌼

It is iconic because it is the world’s first bullion coin that inspired other countries to mint their own bullion coins. It is also the most traded bullion coin in the world. The coin's name comes from combining Paul Kruger's surname with “rand,” South Africa's national currency. Both the 1 oz Gold Krugerrand and the2017 first year release I ounce Silver Krugerrand has the face value of 1 Krugerrand. Unusual, huh?
Have a beautiful day, my sweet sis @kerrislravenhill. Take care 🥰🌺🤙, lots of love💓💝 and a million and one Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!

I remember that the first silver krugerrand came with an enormous premium. Is the 2020 premium a normal one?

One of the reasons why the Krugerrand (silver and gold) are highly traded is because of the very reasonable price. The first year 2017 50th anniversary issue had a rather high premium, even during the first week they were issued. I think I paid about $35.00 for it but came with a COA and on a Mint Capsule. There is a cap of 2 million, and now, you can only get them from the secondary market. The lowest I've seen of 2017 now are priced at $45.00 The succeeding years 2018 and 2019 are just regularly priced bullion and so is the current year 2020. With the ASE priced so high these days, I actually have bought more Krugerrands than ASEs the past two months.

Graded proofs are still available from major dealers:

So I think I will show all of my 4 year Krugerrands in a future article.
Have a wonderful evening, mu friend @ronavel, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Very nice! I have 2 of these the 2019 and the 2020. They are not my favorite coins but they are like a staple coin to stack.

You are absolutely correct!!! The Krugerrand is like the American Silver Eagle, the Maple Leaf, The Britannia, The Libertad, The Philharmonic, The Hawksbill Turtle, Noah's Ark... all silver coins for stacking and trading and for wealth building. In fact, these government mint coins are being produced to accord ordinary and average earners like myself to own precious metals for wealth building. The other coins tend to get you to "collect" them: Pandas, Kooks, Koalas, Elephants, and they are so much fun to have. It really all depends on what one's goals are, that is if one has a stacking goal at all.. or just buying just to buy... just like when one buys Star Wars memorabilia or Disney ornaments or a Bernie baby collection or whatever (that's all me, LOL!). Well, I think you know what I am talking about. I do think that all types of design in coins have a place in anyone's stack. The base and foundation of my silver stack are the American Silver Eagles. I also stack the current year issue of all other "staple" government mint coins, but only one or two coins from each mint a month as they are released. By the end of this year, I would have completed a tube of coins from different world mints. For me, this a practical application of stacking slow and steady.
STACK ON, my friend @maddogmike. Slow and steady wins the race!
Have a wonderful evening, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

This is a Silver coin that has eluded me @silversaver888. The Mexican 5 and 10 Peso were the first fractional Gold I bought. The first one oz. was the Krugerrand, so I need to add one of the Silver versions to the stack. Now that you have mentioned that the 2020 Silver Krugerrand is also available in 2 oz size, you have me interested!!🤗
You next World Cup Wednesday.....would it be the two Oz version😇
Looking forward to your post my friend, take care!!!😍😍😀

The 2020 is the 4th year for the Proof South African Silver Krugerrand and the 1st-ever 2 oz coin. They are so freaking expensive, I am not considering getting them at all. Here is a photo and pricing of the coins:

$168.30.......for the least way to purchase?🤔 I just told the Mrs the price, and she said " For TWO Oz of Silver???"😳
That's really a shame, it's not fancy or unique, but it's a Krugerrand....But not for that price!
You can pick up the Gold Krugerrand for just over spot it you look hard......
Have a good weekend my friend😍😍😀

A very nice piece to add to your stack, sis! The antelope reminded me of an encounter I had with one in Colorado. I had this little Subaru Justy ( a 3 cylinder car) and was out in the back country. This antelope paced with my car at 35 MPH! It was awesome. I later thought about what would have happened had it turned and ran in front of the car, but fortunately for it and us, it didn't. Oh, but the freedom of 'running' side by side with it was awesome! Thanks for sharing your Kugerrand! Much love and hugs!💕🌸😘🤗
