Hades has Completed the Early Access Development - A Review and Recommendation
I was going to post this the other day but the Worst games or gaming experiences Contest was announced and I decided to participate. So I had to wait a few days to publish this article.
I've been waiting for this for a long time!
Hades a great game from Super Giant Games has finally left Early Access, this means that the v1.0 has finally been launch the game will have a proper ending and a lot of updates have been added to the game. Yesterday I downloaded the 5.0 GB for the update and I made one attempt to escape hell, I was not successful. If you don't know anything about this game let me give you a quick summary:
This is a rogue like game where you play as Zagreus, the son of Hades and Prince of the Underworld who wants to escape from hell to reunite with a special family member, the Olympians (mainly formed by uncles and cousins) help along the way. You are an Immortal God, well almost, you can die in the game but that does not mean Game Over, each time you lose all your health points you become stronger you can level up skills, unlock stronger weapons and permanent upgrades. If you die you will need to start from the beginning, but this is not frustrating, as some may think, the game is fun and challenging. Each attempt is different and can last from 5 minutes (when you die fast) to approximately 40 (when you finish the whole run) in my experience.
I already made more than 30 attempts to get out of hell I have only been able to escape once, I know I suck... That was during the Early Access version, so I was not able to see the true ending. I'm going to try one more time before finishing writing this short review and I'll be back and tell you my experience, wish me luck!
I'm back! And with good news! I was able to beat Hades this time. I kinda cheated because I used the best weapon in the game "The Shield of Aegis" that was used by uncle Zeus. This shield is very cool it lets you block attacks and also charge against enemies to deal a great deal of damage. I have to say that it was tough. It was not a walk in the park by any means I was left with less than 50 Health Points and no lives left. Yes, there are some skills that give you extra chances, you can have up to four but on this run I got only three and when I thought I had beaten Hades he regenerated all his life and got new powers, classic video game final boss.
I could not record the gameplay because my laptop is not powerful enough, I have tried it and it lags as hell. But I was able to take some cool screenshots that I will share in the post and also I want to share some videos of the v1.0 launch announcement. To be hones I did not see a lot of changes besides the actual end of the game, just some extra dialogues and I think some extra enemies and cut scenes, I guess I will have to keep playing.
Screenshots taken by me:
This is the main chamber of the Underworld.
Achilles is always helping and giving advices
Cerberus is a loyal friend
Death
Hercules Girlfriend in the Disney's Movie
Hades looks so cool!
I love the illustrations Zagreus is the 'hero' of this story
My favorite Uncle
Chaos is such a cool character
One of Megaera evil sisters
This is how the skill screen looks like.
Moving up the stairs of Hell.
One of my least favorite cousins, but sometimes has cool skills to share.
Here I have more skills.
Moving to the final stage.
I took more screenshots but I don't want to spoil the ending of the game.
After finishing the game I got back to the main halls of Hell where Hades manages all the underworld stuff, love how he rejects every soul, reminds of that time when Goku first died in Dragon Ball Z.
It seems that the goal of the game is to replay it over and over, and it's fun because every run is different, each time the chambers and enemies change at least a little and you also encounter new skills and powers to combine. At the end I got this screen that I will share below, it took me over 41 minutes to beat the game form the first chamber to the final fight. There is a timer for that.

This review is on spot. Every time I have shared this game with my family or friends they make a weird face when I tell you that when you die you got to start from zero, but as the review says, you have to embrace that, death is not the end. Boss encounters are fun because they evolve each time. I simply love this game.
As I said I'm not very good in these kinds of games but I'm enjoying Hades a lot, I will keep playing, even though I have reached the ending I still have a lot to unlock.
I recommend this game a lot, it is available on Steam, on the Epic Games Store and for console on Nintendo Switch. If I ever buy a Switch I would definitely pick this game up, good game to spend at the crapper hahaha.
