I'm back on The Splinterlands! - Starting from Zero!

So I've made it to this point!

In this post, I want to share with you my reasons why I stopped playing @splinterlands and also why I have decided to return. Also, I want to share some tips, I'm like a newbie now, in terms of card levels so I think my current experience can be helpful.

Reasons I mover aways from The Splineterlands

The main reason that I stopped playing was that I sold all my cards. SHOCKING! I know, I know... but there is a good reason behind that decision. A little over two months ago my wife @grisvisa and I moved back from Guadalajara to Cuautla, Morelos, these are two cities in Mexico that are around 7 or 8 hours apart (in a car). We actually decided this in May but until June we made the move. So we needed money...

By that time the Hive pump had passed and we had also sold some coins to buy some things that were needed. I had used some of my SteemPower downs to buy @Splinterlands cards as I was too lazy to move the coins around exchanges. My card collection was around 400 Dollars, take in consideration that I was a minimalist collector, I only kept the cards that I actually used on the battle and I was able to reach Champion III or Champion II sometimes.

We used the money in two things, one was to cover all the expenses of the trip and the other was a refrigerator for our new place in Cuautla. For the trip, I paid a friend for the gas, the tolls and also we rented for him an Airbnb unit that was a block away from our former place in Guadalajara. This friend made us a huge favor for going to pick us up all the way there. We had many things, a couple of cats and also we wanted to avoid traveling in buses because of the COVID-19.

They are the friends that saved us from Guadalajara.

This was the refrigerator that we bought thanks to Splinerlands. Should name him TORHILO THE FROZEN.

The refrigerator is a basic necessity and we did not want to buy it with credit, while that is "convenient" interest rates are very high and Gris is an enemy of such credits, she is the boss.

Why did I return?

I knew that I wanted to come back to Splinterlands and I was going to save around 500 dollars or so to buy all the cards back. That was going to take several months depending on many factors. One day I was showing @splinterlands friend that I am onboarding to the platform. I did a couple of test battles to show him and even though all my cards (the demo cards) were level one I won without much trouble. After that experience, I thought that I was losing potential rewards and fun so the next day I came back.

I had the idea that I needed to invest a lot of HIVE/DEC or USD Dollars to be able to plat better but I found that with my level 1 cards I was kicking some butts. So little by little I started grinding again.

My recommendations:

So I've seen that having only level one cards still can give you rewards and winning battles are possible I discovered that something important is to have good variation with the cards. To kick even more butts on your collection it is recommended to have cards with different skills, mana cost, and also of different types (tanks, melee, archers, mages, etc). So I bought most of the level one cards of the splinters or teams that I needed for the quests, this gave me a great opportunity to win more battles.

Of course, I only bought the cards that were below 1 dollar if not I could not have been able to afford them all.

The future of Splinterlands

I was disconnected from many of the news and updates involving @splinterlands and I kinda was lost. Correct me if I'm wrong but I read that starting on the first day of September Splinterlands ranking system will change a lot. Some say it's a bad move, some say it's good I say: let's see it on practice.

This are the Power requirements, got them from this post.

Now each player will have a Power level, this power goes up depending on the cards that you have and their worth in DEC. So this will be a game-changer, to increase your rank now you will need to invest more in cards, to stop selling everything that arrived to your collection. I'm interested in seeing how this works. So far my Power is 7,210. I've started playing about a week ago.

Conclusion: Let's Keep Battling!

So I'll keep playing @Splinterlands daily in the hope of increasing my account's value day by day. I believe that playing this game is a good investment of time and effort but I'll try to focus on my HIVE activities that are more productive and only play in my spare time.

And of course, if there is a good pump or I manage to get a lot of HIVE I'll invest some on fancy new cards.

¡Gracias! Sí, pues teniendo varias cartas nivel uno se pueden ganar batallas, pero todavía tengo que ver bien en cuales voy a invertir primero.

Now... that's a positive attitude! I read a few unfavorable impressions about the collection power yesterday, and you made my morning. Starting from scratch and with the mind set to grow day by day, once again.

I like to see things from a positive perspective. And after all, @splinterlands is a COLLECTION card game so that should be a great part of the mechanics.

Thank you for your comment!

Welcome! Yeah! it takes emotional control not to spend all the money on cards. I'm glad you're back. Good Luck!

Yes! I gotta be careful! Of course, in this case, it's an investment and I'm the owner of the cards. In other games, I would be spending money just for entertainment and nothing else.

I'm glad to see you back! I have also sold some cards for things I needed at the time like medical bills and this past Christmas, I sold 2K worth of cards! It was a nice Christmas! LOL! An upvote is on the way from steemmonsters!

Thank you very much @clove71!

It's great that we can have fun and when we need $$$ we can sell cards to cover those needs! Now it's the time to build my collection again little by little!

Selling some cards to get stuff done in life? Not a bad deal I would say!

Yeah the level thingy...I dont know how it will play out. I have like 500 cards in all collections and still I am only at 280K power...Lets see if it will get annoying. Still love the game though!

If it doesn't work they will have to balance the levels in the game.
