Renting Splinterlands Cards - Is it worth it?

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about my comeback to @Splinterlands, you can read about it here. In that post I talked about the reason that I sold all my card collection and why did I decide to come back. I also talked about how I was starting from zero and the strategy that I was going to follow to be a good player in this game. Well, now I can say that this strategy has changed a little.

It's true that to be a top player on Splinterlands we have to make a considerable investment to build up at least two or three "teams" or Splinters and that we will have more opportunities to win matches. I don't want to spend HIVE right now to do that and I can't invest fiat either so I decided to follow a different strategy: Rent Cards.

I already made a tutorial on how to rent cards on PeakMonsters.com. I'm not sure if there is another market at the moment that has the option to lease and borrow Splinterlands cards, if there is one please let me know in the comments.

Here is the video to rent cards but it's in Spanish:

A quick tutorial, maybe I'll make another video in English:

The process is simple, we log into PeakMonsters, add HIVE to the account, and then go to the market. Instead of clicking on BUY we gotta choose RENT and then select the best option available. Here we gotta be very careful choosing form the different options because they can very different and they are not always in order. And don't be scared to mess it up, that's how I learned!

So the question now is it's profitable to rent cards on Splinterlands? To be honest I'm still not sure... I can tell you where I am thanks to this practice. Last season I was able to achieve the Champion I rank and right now, in the middle of the current season, I am closing to Champion II. All of this playing with rented cards.

The new season came with big changes and now we have also to Have power that is backed up by value in Dark Energy Crystals or DEC of each card (this is the burn value not the value in the market). So now it's more difficult to reach higher leagues if you don't have a big collection. The good thing is that all the cards you borrow will increase this "Power". So in my logic now it's the best time to rent cards.

I believe that there are still not a lot of players renting cards so I went ahead and rented some Foil Legendary that I found on the market and that I thought they were at a good price. Golden Legendary cards have the biggest value in DEC and they can definitely help you pump above the 500K Power mark. I just hope that more people start renting out their cards so we all have options to rent good cards. I think it's a win-win for everyone.

To answer the question on this post I still need some time. Either way, I'm having a lot of fun and I have received some good cards that I have been able to sell. I also haven't kept a good record of all the cards that I have won and the ones that I have sold. I'm almost certain I have invested more than what I have recovered but I still got at least eight daily quests to complete and the season rewards so maybe with a little luck I will be in green.

Even if I lose money I would still have the awesome memories of battling level 1 users and crushing them with all my power of maxed cards hahaha. Now I'm battling accounts that are at the same level as me so I do not always win but it's still more fun than battling using low-level cards. I'll let you know how this experiment went.
