A Hardcore Minecraft Adventure! (pt2)

The other day, I started my first ever Hardcore Minecraft playthrough! My character is still alive and has been doing stuff. This is what has happened since finding my first diamonds.

First I'd like to note that playing on Hardcore mode has changed my playstyle completely.

Usually when I play, I'm the type of person who will gather all the things then quickly cart them home into the safety of treasure chests lest I succumb to an unexpected creeper who blows up all the items on my person.

Now I just keep things on me. It doesn't matter if the 12 diamonds I just found are safe in a chest or on my person. It's liberating in a way.

After finding my first diamonds, I thought it might be time to start terraforming, to get my little base underway.

Just up past my mine was this lovely overgrown area that I, with the help of about 8 shovels and 3 axes and sleeping in bed multiple times to make it daytime again, transformed into this:

2.png

After that great feat of by-hand terraforming, for a change of pace I went back down to my mine and mined for more brilliant, shiny diamonds.

I don't want to find too many, just enough to get a few things crafted for enchanting purposes in the future. There's no point finding too many until I get a Fortune pickaxe anyway. And even then, I need to remember that I'm in Hardcore mode, so storing a thousand diamonds I'll never use is pointless.

3.png

Whilst in my mine though, I broke through into a larger cavern where a spider promptly fell on my head. Terrified, I flailed wildly and killed it then searched for where it came from.

It didn't take me long to find. The abandoned mine shaft.

I quickly backed away, back into my branch-mine-tunnels, not feeling confident enough to go up there quite yet. It's good to know it's there though! I'll be back.

If I was going to start exploring the more dangerous places in this world, I would need a farm to supply me with food and potion ingredients.

So, despite my recently terraformed land originally being cleared for my house, I decided to chuck together a few paddocks. I still haven't found any villages for carrots and things, but to be fair I haven't explored that much just yet. I hope there's one nearby somewhere.

5.png

Speaking of exploring, soon after I built up my farm areas, I decided to go for a wander around my immediate surrounds to see what was what.

Found some portal ruins. With no chest nearby. Rude.

6.png

I also discovered that just past the swamp and the jungle was a savannah biome! Which is good, because I like the acacia trees with their orange coloured wood.

Because I'm a terrible human, I quickly deforested the savannah before I returned home.

7.png

As I was leaping through the jungle trees on the way home, I found a birdie! Luckily, I just so happened to have some seeds in my inventory so proceeded to tame my newfound friend.

It was at this moment I decided that I shall build a giant bird aviary at some point and capture alllll of the parrots! Muahaha!

8.png

I also found this delightful flower biome.

Naturally, being the environmentalist I am, I tore all of the flowers from the ground to keep for myself and my base.

9.png

They went to good use. I like my base to be covered in trees and flowers and little shrubberies and things.

A nice, serene, peaceful place. A hand-crafted Eden, if you will.

10.png

Now that my farm was producing a bunch of wheat, it was time to lure some cows into their new slaughterhouse home.

My next priority is building a library for enchantment purposes. Enchantment!? as the little dwarf in Dragon Age would exclaim.

In order to build a library, I need a lotttttt of books to make bookshelves and enchantments. I can't make books without leather. So while my Minecraft Lady is enjoying tasty beef steaks for sustenance, she shall also retrieve vast amounts of leather from her bovine friends.

Win/win!

11.png

And I also grabbed some chickens too.

I need all of their feathers. All of them! To craft a vast amount of arrows.

12.png

With my farm and animals all sorted, I went back into my mine.

I was just branching along, minding my own business, keen to find any and all resources, when the vocal screams of a thousand zombies emanated through my passageway. Digging all around, I broke through into what appeared a dungeon.

13.png

The zombies broke through into my tunnel and pushed me back! I cut through them, then more would come!

Then at last...

14.png

I managed to make my way into their hidey-hole and block their spawner. It's only a zombie spawner, and I prefer to make farms out of cave spiders and skeletons, but thought I'd keep it up just in case.

In the treasure chests I found a music disc, a Feather Falling IV, some diamond horse armour, and a bunch of bones and seeds. Not too shabby!

15.png

Now that I had one enchanting book, I really needed wanted a lot more. The cows were breeding, not enough yet to have a good chunk of leather, but it's all getting there.

It was time to start building my library. I placed the dirt blocks there for size reference. That's where the bookshelves and enchanting table shall go. Plus an anvil, of course. And a few more treasure chests for all the books and lapis lazuli.

It's all coming together nicely!

I'm hoping in my next post to have all my enchants done up and to start work in the Nether. I'm also hoping there are a couple Cave Spider spawners up in that abandoned mineshaft I found so I can make a decent XP farm. We'll see how it goes! 😁

Until next time,

Thanks for stopping by!

Every time I think I'm done playing Minecraft, someone links me a video or I see a blog post like yours, and the next thing I know I've created entire cities and populated it with villagers who I've imagined an entire storyline for including complex backstories.

Now, excuse me while I go update that.

OH PS! I did in fact download and try Fantasy Blacksmith. I found a light setting which let me make the room useable and promptly absolutely failed in making my first bronze sword... but I'm going to try again as I think despite its extremely clunky UI and controls.

I'm the same 😅 I've been over Minecraft for a couple of years now, then I see a couple of interesting posts with people playing Hardcore and suddenly I'm inspired to do my own run! Haha. Usually I can't play unless it's in multiplayer with others... I feel like, what's the point in making all these things unless there's someone else to see it? But that's the great thing about blogging about it, I guess!

I noticed that Fantasy Blacksmith has had a couple of updates since I first wrote my disappointed post about it. I just really couldn't get past the bugs I was experiencing and the clunkiness. It's such a great idea, executed so poorly. It makes me sad. I want it to be good! 😅
