A Month of the Sims ~ Thwarted by Glitches.

I was seriously looking forward to this. I had plans -- grand plans! -- to play the Sims for daaaaaays, form a massive family, write little stories for each of them, and it was going to be fantastic. I was hyped. I was actually excited to play!

I use all the important nraas mods - ErrorTrap, Debugger, etc. And for the first time, I'm playing a game that's a fresh install with no custom content in it. It's just nraas and everything base game. So I was expecting a breezy, uneventful playthrough with nary a glitch in sight.

So imagine my surprise today, after playing this game perfectly yesterday, when within twenty minutes my character receives flowers from an invisible sim. And then got sent to style an invisible sim. And then witnessed invisible sims in the park rollerskating with small children.

The nraas debugger has a "fix invisible sims" option, which I tried several times to no avail. I closed the game and deleted cache files. I loaded the backup save. I did everything the internet told me to do.

But alas. Most of those invisible sims stayed invisible. I can never see or interact with Cornelia Goth ever again.

I decided to just live with it. Who cares if a few sims were invisible? They weren't important to my lady. They could stay invisible and live their own invisible little lives.

And then... after proposing to her beloved after having her house burgled, desperate to have a brave man live in her house to thwart off any possible future burglars, it happened.

A sim walked past with no skin texture.

And then when styling some random sim, making him wear purple pants transformed his skin entirely purple too.

And then the game became a frameratey mess, glitch, glitch, glitch... my character walked on water for a bit... glitch, glitch, glitch...

CRASH!!!

I am so, so, so disappointed. SO disappointed. How does anyone even play the Sims anymore? Every. Single. Time. I try to play it, I get accosted by glitches. It doesn't matter if it's a fresh install, filled with custom content or completely vanilla.

It is destined that I shall never have a long and fulfilling Sims game. If they ever make a Sims 5, I hope they learn from the disappointment that is the Sims 4 and return to the open sandbox world of the Sims 3. Maybe then I can finally do a Ten Generation Family challenge without having to deal with corrupted saves and game crashes. 🙄

Now I have to find a new game to play and write a story about for a whole month. 😅

SIGH.

Until next time... 😞

As a child I loved playing the sims, I could spend hours playing it. But I do agree with you, it's a game with a lot of glitches and that tends to be a bit overwhelming. I recently wanted to play it again but unfortunately I don't have a computer that supports the game so I downloaded it on my phone but I didn't like it at all.

I never used to get this many glitches... but in the past couple of years every time I try to play to do a new playthrough, something happens. It used to be a lot less glitchy back in 2010 or so, haha.

Yeah, phone Sims isn't really that great. ☹️

At this point I'm thinking of not even bothering. Might need to get another computer with Windows 7 on it or something if I ever want to play this. 😅 Maybe then it'll work like it's supposed to, haha. I never used to have so many glitches and issues yeeeears ago when it was still a current game...

I can imagine how angry you are, it's unpleasant. You can write to the manufacturer's support and point out the shortcomings.

Thanks. 🙂 Unfortunately talking to support won't be very helpful. A lot of people have experienced the same things over the years and have voiced their frustrations... I probably won't be the last either. 😞

It's a shame when crashes and glitches ruin your games. I remember @emuse experiences a huge bug that basically ruined her save file she had spent 300+ hours on in the Sims 4. We spent quite a while trying to back up her files and install some fixes but in the end it didn't work.

Oh no! 300 hours is immense! 😱😞

I'm not really a fan of the Sims 4, but I would hope that they would have overcome these terrible issues with a newer, more modern version. That's so horrible!

Yeah, what's worse is that the bug she encountered has been around for years and they still haven't fixed it. Seems all they care about is to produce more expansion packs to sell.

Oh wow that's a pain. I hope you have better luck with the next game. I play a lot of alpha's and Beta's these days, so I am kind of used to glitches. But it is still annoy when you spend money on a game and you have it not work the way it should.
I have been playing New World and whilst I have not had any issues. I have seen a lot of people complaining they have.
Maybe try again tomorrow, the game may have been having a bad day.

I've had this game for a long time and it never used to be this glitchy... I think I might blame it on Windows 10 and compatibility maybe, although, even running it in earlier compatibility doesn't help. 🙁

I was expecting bugs and glitches... they usually start to appear in the Sims once you've had the game "live" for quite a few generations and bloat fills the savefile... I just wasn't expecting it to happen within a few hours of playing.

New World is a great game. I love the exploring, gathering, crafting in it. 🙂 I never personally experienced any issues while playing it. But, as someone who loves trading and making alllll the gold, the constant shutting down of the trading post affects me... I'm waiting til they fix the trading post and gold issues before trying that game again.

mods. 😏😏😏😇 hahaha.

when this happens.. when the game run very very sluggish. I save the 'household' to the library. then I create a new game and migrate that household to continue.(the skills will remain intact BUT I believe family tree will be wiped out if the sim is deceased or atleast not with the household)

I was only using the nraas mods - the ones that are supposed to prevent this from happening, haha. 😅 And even then, it shouldn't have happened until a couple of generations in! Not in the first couple of hours.

It sucks. 🙁

in sims 3. when a 'object' turns purple it means one thing, it wasn't able to access the model file.

hardware 'read' issues can do this(age-ing/faulty hdd or out of memory). this can also be caused by incorrect skin paths. or mods that double dipped(duplicate mods or mods using the same id)

it's just that I never experience this...yet.(THANK GOD!)

making a resort in island paradise is just impossible. 🤣🤣🤣

but damn first couple of hours huh. that's terrible.

in sims 3. when a 'object' turns purple it means one thing, it wasn't able to access the model file.

And not only in the Sims 3, in many other games too. It wasn't that type of purple. 🙂

And Island Paradise is the glitchiest mess of them all. 😅 Tried it once. Performed all the fixes including removing certain families and houseboats, still na-da and I never went back to it.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Won't be trying the sims again unless I get an older system with Windows 7 on it so I can run it as if it were "back in the day."
