Becoming the next great Slime Rancher!!

Slime Rancher is a game that I've been eyeballing on Steam for a couple of years now. It has overwhelmingly positive reviews and it was constantly being recommended to me as something players like me would enjoy. The screenshots didn't really grab me though, and I didn't want to spend money on it just to find out I wouldn't like it.

I know that I can refund things if I do so before the first 2 hours, but I don't like doing that unless absolutely necessary. However... this is where Gamepass comes in!

Slime Rancher is currently on Gamepass. I played it for a few hours last night and really got into it! Before I went to bed, I uninstalled it, bought it on Steam and reinstalled it there, and prepared to enjoy it properly today! 😃

Let us begin!

Screenshot (809).png

I am Beatrice Le Beau and I've been gifted this wonderful ranch with which I shall soon make my name upon the great far, far away.

The goal is to kidnap slimy creatures from their natural habitats, keep them trapped in my own enclosures, and overfeed them so they become so fat that they poop out lots of valuable currencies with which I shall upgrade my ranch and myself.

It's simple, but very effective.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-08-48-29-79.png

Eager to start collecting slime poop, I rush out into the world with my trusty vacuum-gun and start sucking up a bunch of slimes.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-08-50-49-28.png

Once I've collected a substantial amount of the easiest-to-capture creatures, the pink ones, I shoot them out of my vacuum and into their brand new home.

Rubbing my hands with glee, I prepare to collect their most valuable poop.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-09-38-02-85.png

In order to collect their most valuable poop, I need to feed them a lot. Every time they eat, they poop, and every time they poop, I profit. 😈

The pink slimes are happy to eat anything, so I prepare a field of carrots. And the next slimes I plan on kidnapping are cute little fellows that look like kitty cats, so I prepare some chicken for them too.

My slimes will be the best-fed slimes in all the ranges!

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-09-45-40-39.png

As I'm preparing to profit off more poop, something very necessary if I wish to expand my ranch so I can hold even more profitable creatures and make even more money off of them, a delightful little old lady sends me an email and informs me that I've been welcomed into the Rancher Trade Network.

If I give them certain things, I shall be rewarded with other things! Fantastic. I only have a day to do each trade though, and there is no cubefruit in my general vicinity and I don't want to explore too far just yet.

Guess the little old lady will be disappointed on the morrow.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-10-13-47-08.png

The next day, the little old lady's request disappeared into the ether and a scientist man decided to try his luck.

His request was a lot easier!

I needed to kidnap a bunch of different slime species for him, shoot them into the green spirally hole for his collection, and he'd give me some chooks and 750 moneys. That looked like a good deal to me!

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-10-04-06-27.png

So that night, I went out into the wilds to find the night-flying glowy slimes as well as the normal pink and kitty cat slimes...

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-10-29-20-71.png

And performed my first trade!

In a shower of gold coins and chickens, I scurried around with my vacuum-gun and retrieved my great reward.

With the reward, I was able to feed my kitty cat slimes -and- start setting up another enclosure. Soon I'll have my very own glowy night-fairy slimes to poop out some riches for me. My ranch is getting better and better!

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-10-36-36-46.png

My kitty cat slimes are so happy with the chicken feast that one of them even allows me a nose-boop!

Happy slimes means a happy wallet! 😁

After many, many days of wrangling slimes and profiting off their most glorious poop, I decided that I would go and explore what else the world had to offer.

Screenshot (811).png

What I discovered was that the map is actually pretty dang big!

There are also a few locked doors around the place that require Slime Keys, and there are also some locked treasure chests.

As I travelled around I found a mystical island with a gigantic slime sitting in its very centre.

Screenshot (816).png

As I approached it, its mouth opened wide as though daring me to shoot food into its gaping maw. I happily obliged.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-01-17-20-52.png

And after eating literally every carrot and fruit I could throw at it, it exploded into a mass of little slimes, and money, and left a key where it once sat.

A key!!

I could open one of those locked doors and see what awaited inside!!

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-01-23-10-87.png

With the trusty key in my grasp, I raced through a cave and towards one of the locked doors I had found previously...

And prepared to see what wonders lay behind the great door.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-01-24-44-98.png

Behind this door specifically was a hidden quarry, and lurking within the quarry were several fiery slimes. 🔥

I didn't want to grab them just yet -- I haven't upgraded my person with a jetpack yet, and they were quite far down and there was no obvious route to get back up. And so, the fiery slimes may live their peaceful little lives in their natural environment for a bit longer before I capture them and make them poop copiously.

SlimeRancher-2022-01-23-01-33-58-81.png

This game is seriously addictive and I'm glad I decided to give it a chance on Gamepass last night. That's how I've been using Gamepass at any rate -- find something I enjoy, buy it on Steam instead. I'm using it as kind of a game preview, since I would rather my games and achievements and everything on Steam instead.

So far I've bought Monster Sanctuary and now Slime Rancher thanks to trialling them on Gamepass.

I'll get back into Monster Sanctuary at some point, but for the time being Slime Rancher is definitely worth the time I'm putting into it!

You can find it on the Steam Store here!

And you can also find it on Gamepass at the moment. ⭐️

If you enjoy grindy gathering games, this one is done very well and I very much recommend it! I've only clocked 5 hours of gametime so far (8 if you include my dabbling last night) but I foresee many more hours being spent. There is so much to upgrade! So much progression! And the method of gameplay is fun, good!

My only complaint so far is that your hotbar is your inventory and it's woefully small. At the same time, its size makes sense for the game. 🤷‍♀

I'm really enjoying it! 😄

Until next time!! 🟢

You won't understand until you try it yourself. I'm glad you liked it, there are so many games now that it's hard to choose an interesting one for yourself

I'm mostly playing so many at the moment just to get a feel for different ones and weed out the good ones from not-so-good ones, while waiting for a specific one in a few weeks. 🙂

Nice! I also recently bought Slime Rancher since it was on a huge 70% sale on Steam, haven't played it too much but I had fun playing it. I'm not sure whether I'm doing anything wrong but I've been ending up with fields of Tar Slimes 😂 and I just end up shooting them into the sea 😂

Oh no! 😅 I have no idea what the Tar Slimes are even for, or if they're just a bad slime I need to look out for. So far I've just been shooting them with my water gun and it gets rid of them.

...shooting them into the sea...

🤣😂 that's what I've been doing to get rid of things! I don't want to spend money on an incinerator yet, so, out to sea you go!!! 🤣

My brief observation of the Tarr slimes tells me that they destroy everything, don't think they drop any plorts for selling even if you feed them. Haha shooting everything into the sea is really satisfying!

I've seen this game several times and thought like "wtf no lol" but this description...

The goal is to kidnap slimy creatures from their natural habitats, keep them trapped in my own enclosures, and overfeed them so they become so fat that they poop out lots of valuable currencies with which I shall upgrade my ranch and myself.

...makes me want to play it. That just sounds like all sorts of fun.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure what to really make of this game when I've looked at it previously. Vacuuming up slimes and somehow making a farming ranch with them? And the screenshots that I saw weren't really appealing...

But playing it and trying it for myself, it's pretty good! Kidnapping all these poor creatures and forcing them to poop for profit. It's definitely unique, haha!! 😅

It's great that the game pass is helping you to find games you like. I have seen youtubers play Slime Rancher and it looks fun, or maybe they just made it look fun lol. Anyways glad you enjoyed it after waiting to play it for so long.

It is pretty fun!! But I totally understand youtubers making things look fun... 😅 I bought a couple of games 10 years or so ago because a youtuber I watched regularly made the games look fantastic, then I try them myself and... ehhhhh, not quite as great, haha.
