Hace años descubrí que los videojuegos de rol, sandbox y FPS podían venir combinados en una sola presentación y que, bien llevados, son la mejor idea que a alguien se le pudo ocurrir jamás. La gente de Ubisoft lo supo y por ello le atinaron en grande con Far Cry 3, probablemente uno de los mejores de su clase en lo que a historia y jugabilidad se refiere. As it happened to me, I first heard about this gem back in 2015, if memory serves me correctly, and I have to admit, I didn't like it at first. I was very used to Call of Duty or Halo style gameplay, something more artificial, while in Far Cry 3 everything felt more "natural", be it shooting (weapons have different fire characteristics), driving or just walking around. Of course, I gave it a chance and quickly got used to it to the point that I completed the campaign about six or seven times.

Lo que me resulta más llamativo a Far Cry 3 es la capacidad de tomar decisiones y moverse libremente, algo que, como mencioné, es común en los juegos de rol y sandbox, pero inusual en un FPS. Las Islas Rook, escenario donde se desarrolla el juego, están llenas de misterios, misiones secundarias que cuentan historias interesantes y recompensas. Claro, algunas de estas misiones son repetitivas, pero siempre se les agrega algo para darle un toque distinto, ya sea tener que matar al enemigo con un arma en específico, o en un período de tiempo limitado.

What I find most striking about Far Cry 3 is the ability to make decisions and move freely, something that, as I mentioned, is common in RPGs and sandbox games, but unusual in an FPS. The Rook Islands, the setting where the game takes place, are full of mysteries, side quests that tell interesting stories and rewards. Sure, some of these missions are repetitive, but there's always something added to give them a twist, whether it's having to kill the enemy with a specific weapon, or in a limited period of time.
