Not all the lambs are cute || Cult of the Lamb review and playthrough part 1.

Some lambs are cute and badass, Just like the protagonist of this game. Hi All!. Most of the time I only play big AAA titles, a few months ago my graphics card started to fail under load and I couldn't afford to replace it. that's when my friend suggested me some indie game titles. His favorite genre is roguelike games so he told me to try some rogulikes but I haven't had the chance or interest to try them before. but now I can't play more graphically demanding games on my PC. I was bored and he kept suggesting me to play these games, and one of them was Cult of the Lamb, so I installed it and started playing it.

When I first started the game, I was fooled by its gorgeous art and cute creatures but as I progressed through the story, I started to understand that this game was not what it looked like on the surface,As you progress through the game you'll understand how dark this game is. this game blends two genres into one and has done a good job at that. it combines its rougelite gameplay where you have to go on crusades to collect resources and defeat enemies with base management where you have to look after your cult's faith levels and tend to them. The background music is excellent, it has an electronic, trippy, and mysterious vibe to it. the sound design and animations for the followers are sometimes goofy but most of the time it's very cute and adorable.

The story of this game is not complicated. The lamb was executed by the four bishops who sealed away an entity called the one who waits. after execution, the entity offers a lamb to avenge its death by defeating the bishops by resurrecting the lamb. to defeat the bishop lamb have to form a cult by recruiting new followers in order to become strong and ultimately release the entity.

Even though they did a good job of making the movement feel very fluid, the combat system is not that great in my opinion. the combat system is unrefined and unpredictable, there is when you swing a sword right in front of the enemy and it does no damage to the enemy. the dagger has more attack speed with less damage, the axe has less attack speed but packs a lot of damage when hit, and the sword sits in between the dagger and the axe. As you progress through there will be more options for the weapons such as claws, hammers, etc. and there is a secondary weapon mostly a ranged weapon that uses curses to fire which can be collected when an enemy dies.

The levels are randomly generated and the number of enemies and resources collected are inconsistent between each crusade, but as the game progresses the crusades randomize the level layout and increase the number of enemies spawned. In each crusade, the tarot cards can be drawn which adds perks for that crusade such as increasing attack speed by 1.2, gaining extra two hearts, etc. when the crusade is finished, the tarot cards are reset, and the number of tarot cards you can draw is also inconsistent between each crusade. there's one time I collected over 13 cards and beat one of the bishops with only 5 or 6 attacks. It was very fun going on crusades and hoping for a good build.

The base management is also very fun and engaging. interacting with followers and managing their faith level was fun for me. sometimes I just forgot to go on crusades and just do some sidequests and there are also a lot of activities to lose track of the time. there's fishing which is very easy once you get the hang of it and there's an entire board game called Knucklebones where you can stake coins for a game, I have spent a lot of time playing this game and as you progress, you unlock some new characters who you can play knucklebones with hard difficulty, every time you defeat a new character in knucklebones unlocks a new tarot card. Even though this game has a linear structure in terms of gameplay, the availability and variety of sidequests and activities make it a more unique ride.

In conclusion, This game is an excellent rogue-lite with its mix of genres makes it more fun and engaging, this game feels dark at sometimes but offers much more so I never got bored of playing it. there are a lot of activities to explore and board games to win. It was a very nice game and I had fun playing it. if you are planning to get a new game, id definitely suggests you to get this game, you won't regret it.
