A review of all the nominees for GAME OF THE YEAR at the Game Awards

imagen.png

English Version

After being inactive for quite some time I'm still a little bit settling in my house and getting everything ready to continue posting on Hive, but this post will surely be the beginning of a routine of activity that I have planned.

I remember mentioning the Game Awards in a past post, that ceremony that most people look at as the annual video game awards and that always raises a bit of controversy, for me the only award that matters is the game of the year if I'm honest.

So this time I will be talking about the nominees for this last award, which will be held in a few weeks, I clarify that these awards are mostly subjective, they are just a big ceremony to attract the crowd and make them talk about videogames.

image.png

Most of the games I'm going to expose here I haven't played them, not even close, but I like to look for reviews of them and watch gameplays to see how they are, so I have an idea of what each of these games are about, let's start with the obvious, the star nominee.

Ragnarok is Playstation's main bet.

It is the sequel to the game of the same name published in 2018 of which was winner of the game of the year award, so Naughty Dog already came with an important weight of not only equal that delivery but to surpass it in its story and gameplay, the previous God Of War was leaving a little of its Hack'n Slash theme to be a little more like a The Last Of Us focused on combat and this installment seems to bet on the same and improved. A tough opponent knowing that this game is already considered from day one as a masterpiece.

imagen.png

Elden Ring, the obvious contender

If there is a game that has completely broken this year is this, FromSoftware's creation that had the participation of R.R Martin in the creation of a medieval world rich in culture meets a type of gameplay that has been very fashionable in recent years, the dark souls find their spiritual sequel in a game full of epic moments, exploration of an open world inspired by the Lord of the Rings that invites you to participate in epic battles against enemies that could quietly star in a whole game or a movie by themselves.

Horizon, as a bit of a filler

Although I think it is a wonderful game and its mix of role playing and adventure is among the best perhaps of this decade, I feel that it lags a little behind for reasons of the script, it does not have a very large advertising budget behind although it is one of the best productions that Sony has, they are clear that the favorite of the night is God Of War, nothing happens anyway its story, characters and especially combat look amazing wherever it is.

A Plague Tale might be the surprise.

One of the games that I think has serious chances to take the award as surprise of the year, the continuation of one of the best ip of the moment, is a game that is polished graphically in a way that I can not describe, and the story I think is on par with many film productions, the struggle of Amicia against the English Inquisition seems to me one of those stories that only a studio bet on them once in a while, and I have to support that resolves very well the gameplay in third person and the moments of action. You have to pay attention to this game.

Nintendo also plays

the third installment of Xenoblade is here after making us wait 80 years, and well I just found out that it is a contender for game of the year, watching some of the gameplays I can't help but see Final Fantasy repowered, but it looks fun, a bit of role playing and Japanese action to lighten the mood although I don't think it looks quite amazing to take the title away from some of the games that are nominated, although nintendo is well known for surprising so maybe this title is undervaluing a little bit this title.

image.png

obligatory indie game

Although I'm not a big fan of indie games, I think stray is in that David vs goliath situation where one has no choice but to watch for this game to win the award, I was watching past editions and they have already given the award to indie studios so I don't see it unexpected that the cat will win in the end, it's a short, nice and simple game, an adventure that is accessible and has its recognition among gamers.

I'm a bit rusty with writing, what's next after all this? thanks if you made it this far and tolerate my content, I'll catch up with the community soon but for now I have to fix a few things with my life, anyway I always come back to Hive, always.

Thank you very much for reading all this.

I think the clear winner will be God of War, but we have to recognize that there are a lot of great games here. If there was an award for the game with the strongest story, A Plague Tale would take it. I don't know, we'll watch it together and see. I have no doubt you'll be back on Hive as soon as possible, my friend.

Stray is an indie game?? I've only watched little snippets of gameplay but the graphics look fantastic and i just assumed it was from a big studio! impressive.

Haha yeah, it's a pretty short game compared to other AAA titles. But hey, the graphic are really stunning.
