Uh oh... Spring is coming!

Hmmmm... I wonder if other gardeners also have the fear of an incoming spring? Well, obviously not on the other side of the planet... but I have it here. Already the blossoms on our hose tree are blooming, and one day... we will figure out what the hell it is... but until then, the hoses are there for another year... another year of not yet having time to lay out the irrigation again after digging out a lot of it... but there is no hurry, we don't have plants that rely too heavily on the water as we have mostly native plants... but still, it would be nice to finally clear the hoses of this tree...

... and even though the weather is wet, cold, and still a touch windy... for some reason the bulbs have all started to poke their heads up... in this area, and also on the front side where they skipped a season. I'm wondering if they have come up too early... and will be slaughtered by a sudden change... but for the moment, they are coming up healthily, and soon we should expect a little flourish of dandelions and tulips.

... and the reason that I'm fearing the spring... well, I still have about 20 or so square metres of grass to uproot and prepare for the new grass rolls... and I do it slowly, an hour a day... which clears about half a metre squared. It is much slower now, as I'm in an area where there are deep rooted cooch grass... and any little node left behind will result in the zombies rising again... but I'm hoping to choke them with the replacement grass.. which is also a hardy cooch of a different variety.
Anyway, I need to get this done whilst the ground is still soft... as soon as spring starts, the existing grass will spring back to life... and by summer, the ground will be pretty solid and much harder to dig and pick through...
... so, I've got a couple of months at most before I need to have the area cleared... it should be fine, but the clock is now definitely ticking!

Godspeed to you then😂✨
A few months is alright for those who get to it swiftly..
Lol, I think that is the key... not sure if we will be swift enough!
I understand your spring worries! It's great you're taking it slow with the grass removal. Good luck finishing the work before the ground gets hard.
Yep, I need to go carefully now or we will have the grass growing up through the new grass...
Your weather sounds pretty great compared to what we have been getting lately. It's been hot and miserable. Thankfully cooler temperatures should be around the corner!
I do hate hot and still weather... wait, hot and humid is even worse...
I'm with you there!
You’re in that tricky spot where the beauty of early blooms comes with a looming deadline for garden work. Those stubborn cooch grass roots look relentless, I can see why you’d want to get ahead of them before spring takes off. Hopefully, the weather holds just long enough for you to finish the clearing and enjoy the season without that task hanging over your head.
Fingers crossed... I think I'm going to stop being so careful with it and just remove the top 10 centimetres directly.
Ah, we get a little break in winter and then bang! Spring arrives, and things get hectic.
That poor hose tree - I think you might need to do something about that.
Good luck with the grass removal - I don't envy that job.
Grass removal is the worst... I should just get a guy with a bobcat or something... but I'm tight! I'm starting to wonder if I have mild hay fever though... being face down in grass seems to get something going...
Oh it's the season for hay fever though...
Haha, the “fear” of welcoming spring is so relatable! 😄 Between being happy to see the flowers start to grow, but also panicking at the piling up of to-do lists in the garden. Hopefully the mission to get rid of the cooch grass zombie will be successful before the soil hardens...
Yep... I'm hopping to beat those grass zombies with new zombies!
