Transplanting three of my plants 🌱🌿🌾, changing pots / Trasplantando a tres de mis plantas 🌱🌿🌾, cambio de macetas

Hello hivers. I have several plants on my balcony and for a long time I have wanted to change some of their pots for different reasons, some because they have already grown and need more space to develop better and others because their pots are broken and not suitable for anyone but me to see 😬 hahaha.

Saludos hivers. Tengo varias plantas en mi balcón y desde hace tiempo he querido cambiar algunas de maceta por diferentes razones, unas porque ya han crecido y necesitan más espacio para desarrollarse mejor y otras porque sus macetas están rotas y no aptas para que las vea nadie más que yo 😬 jajaja.

Last Sunday I finally decided to dedicate the morning to gardening. To start, I chose the three plants that most needed a pot change, the rose bush (Rosa), the lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) and the citronella (Cymbopogon citratus).

El domingo pasado finalmente decidí dedicar la mañana a la jardinería. Para empezar elegí las tres plantas que más necesitaban cambio de maceta, el rosal (Rosa), el toronjil (Melissa officinalis) y el malojillo (Cymbopogon citratus).

The Rose bush 🌹: This rose bush of white roses has been with me for a few years, I took him from a giant rose bush that was in the garden of a place where I worked, the branch that I brought to my house took roots and I planted it. The pot where I had him is in good condition but I wanted to change it to a larger one to see if he grows more, he's not very big but he always blooms 😊.

El rosal 🌹: este rosal de rosas blancas tiene unos cuantos años conmigo, lo saqué de un rosal gigante que estaba en el jardín de un lugar donde trabajé, la rama que traje a mi casa sacó raíces y la sembré. La maceta donde lo tenía esta en buenas condiciones pero quise cambiarlo a una más grande para ver si crece más, no es muy grande pero siempre florea 😊.

I decided to transplant the rose bush into a pot that I made with a five-liter bottle; the plant that was there dried up a long time ago. First I removed the weeds that had grown and when I emptied all the soil I found several small bulbs of garlic 🧄. It turns out that I had put in a few cloves of garlic to see if they would grow and yes, I had succeeded hehehe.

Decidí trasplantar el rosal en una maceta que hice con una botella de cinco litros, la planta que estaba ahí se secó hace tiempo. Primero retiré la maleza que había crecido y cuando vacíé toda la tierra me encontré varios bulbos pequeños de ajo 🧄. Resulta que yo había puesto unos cuantos dientes de ajo para ver si crecían y pues sí, lo hicieron jejeje.

After emptying the pot, I washed it well and dried it. I spread the earth that had been there, removed all the remains of weeds and with the help of a stone I crushed the large balls that had formed, the idea was to leave the earth soft, fine and without lumps so that it could oxygenate and can mix better with the fertilizer.

Después de vaciar la maceta, la lavé bien y la sequé. Extendí la tierra que había estado allí, le quité todos los restos de maleza y con la ayuda de una piedra fui aplastando las pelotitas grandes que se habían formado, la idea era dejar la tierra suave, fina y sin grumos para que se oxigene y se pueda mezclar mejor con el abono.

I'm going to plant these plants by mixing part of the soil that each of them has, with fertilized soil that I bought, coffee grounds and crushed egg shells.

Estas plantas las voy a sembrar mezclando parte de la tierra que cada una de ellas tiene, con tierra abonada que compré, borra de café y cáscaras de huevos trituradas.

Potting soil / Tierra abonada

Why do I use these four elements? Well, I'll explain to you. Composted soil is full of nutrients that help plants grow and flower faster and have better moisture retention, making the soil structure more consistent. Coffee grounds improve soil pH and crushed eggshells provide calcium to plants and keep pests away. It's important to remember that the soil where the plant was located should be 50% part of this mixture because this will make the plant feel comfortable and familiar with her new pot or place where she will be transplanted.

¿Por qué utilizo estos cuatro elementos? Bueno, les explico. La tierra abonada está llena de nutrientes que ayudan a las plantas a crecer y florecer más rápido y a tener una mejor retención de la humedad, haciendo que la estructura del suelo sea más consistente. La borra de café mejora el pH del suelo y las cáscaras de huevo trituradas le proporcionan calcio a las plantas y alejan las plagas. Es importante recordar que la tierra donde estaba la planta debe formar parte de esta mezcla en un 50% porque esto hará que la planta se sienta cómoda y familiarizada con su nueva maceta o lugar donde vaya a ser trasplantada.

The proportion of the mixture that I usually use is 50% soil that was in the pot with the plant, 40% fertilized soil, 5% coffee grounds and 5% crushed eggshells. If the soil where the plant was is very poor or dry, you can exchange the percentage by increasing the amount of soil fertilized and decreasing the amount of the plant's original soil.

La proporción de la mezcla que suelo utilizar es de 50% de tierra que estaba en la maceta con la planta, 40% de tierra abonada, 5% borra de café y 5% cáscaras de huevo trituradas. Si la tierra donde estaba la planta es muy pobre o seca pueden intercambiar el porcentaje aumentando la cantidad de tierra abonada y disminuyendo la de la tierra original de la planta.

Rose bushes have thin and shallow roots so when I took him out of his pot I left him with little soil so I could transplant him deeper into his new pot and thus cover his trunk more because it was very exposed before.

Los rosales tienen raíces delgadas y poco profundas así que cuando lo saqué de su maceta lo dejé con poca tierra para poder trasplantarlo más profundo en su nueva maceta y así cubrir más su tronco porque antes estaba muy expuesto.

And this is how my rose bush looks in his new pot, with much more space to grow and continue blooming 🌹😊.

Y asi se ve mi rosal en su nueva maceta, con mucho más espacio para crecer y seguir floreciendo 🌹😊.

The lemon balm 🌱: first of all I want to publicly apologize to this noble plant for having had her for so long in this totally ruined pot 😬😐, when I planted her here it was a pot, it's what it has always been, a pot of margarine, but it was new, little by little it broke down until it reached this, that is, to practically nothing 🥴🤣😬, secondly I want to congratulate this plant for being so strong and wanting so much to move forward despite the place where she has been, that speaks well of her and not so well of me 😔😕 but hey, the important thing is that the time has come to change this 😉.

El toronjil 🌱: primero que nada quiero pedirle disculpas públicamente a esta noble planta por haberla tenido tanto tiempo en este pote totalmente desbaratado 😬😐, cuando la sembré aquí era un pote, es lo que siempre ha sido, un pote de margarina, pero era nuevo, poco a poco se fue rompiendo hasta llegar a esto, o sea, a prácticamente la nada 🥴🤣😬, en segundo lugar quiero felicitar a esta planta por ser tan fuerte y tener tantas ganas de salir adelante a pesar del lugar donde ha estado, eso habla bien de ella y no tan bien de mí 😔😕 pero bueno, lo importante es que llegó el momento de cambiar esto 😉.

Although my lemon balm's pot leaves a lot to be desired, I have always taken good care of her and she blooms constantly. Probably many of those who have plants will have had a pot in ruins or even worse than mine 😬🤣🤣 but few would dare to take photos of them for a gardening post hahaha, I wanted to do it because it's something that can happen to all of us and the important thing is to accept it and obviously do something to improve this situation for the benefit of our beloved plants.

Si bien la maceta de mi toronjil deja mucho que desear siempre he cuidado bien de ella y florece constantemente. Probablemente muchas de los que tienen plantas habrán tenido alguna vez alguna maceta en ruinas o hasta peor que la mía 😬🤣🤣 pero pocos se atreverían a tomarles fotos para una publicación de jardinería jajaja, yo quise hacerlo porque es algo que nos puede suceder a todos y lo importante es aceptarlo y obviamente hacer algo para mejorar esta situación en beneficio de nuestras queridas plantas.

Lemon balm's roots are short so she doesn't need a deep pot / Las raíces del toronjil son cortas así que no necesita una maceta profunda

The procedure was the same as with the rose bush, remove her from where she was, clean her soil and pour the mixture of fertilized soil, coffee grounds and crushed eggshells into the new pot. Since the lemon balm soil was so little, I added it all next to the mixture. She had some dry branches so I took the opportunity to prune her.

El procedimiento fue el mismo que con el rosal, sacarlo de donde estaba, limpiar su tierra y echar la mezcla de tierra abonada, borra de café y cáscaras de huevo trituradas en la nueva maceta, como la tierra del toronjil era tan poquita la eché toda junto a la mezcla. Tenía algunas ramas secas así que aproveché para podarlo.

I transplanted the lemon balm into the pot where the rose bush was since it's new and perfect for her size. And that's how she looks now 👇🏻.

El toronjil lo trasplanté en la maceta donde estaba el rosal ya que está nueva y es perfecta para su tamaño. Y así se ve ahora 👇🏻.

Citronella 🌾: this plant is widely consumed in Venezuela, we prepare a tea that is used against colds, flu, indigestion, upset stomach, fever, etc. The truth is that here we drink it for almost everything hehehe 🍵. I extracted this plant from the same garden where the rose bush was. I decided to change her pot because it's already broken and the plant needs more depth, not because of the roots, which are short and thin, but because of the stem, which is very long and I would like it not to be so exposed.

El malojillo o citronela 🌾: esta planta es muy consumida en Venezuela, con ella se prepara un té que sirve contra resfriados, gripe, indigestión, malestar estomacal, fiebre, etc. la verdad es que aquí lo tomamos para casi todo jejeje 🍵. Esta planta la extraje del mismo jardín donde estaba el rosal. Decidí cambiarla de maceta porque ya está rota y la planta necesita más profundidad, no por las raíces, que son cortas y delgadas sino por el tallo que es muy largo y me gustaría que no estuviese tan expuesto.

I decided to use a five-liter bottle because it's quite tall and is no longer suitable for water because it's broken at the bottom. I cut out the top with a hot knife and made some holes in the bottom.

Decidí usar una botella de cinco litros porque es bastante alta y ya no sirve para el agua porque está rota abajo. Recorté la parte de arriba con un cuchillo caliente y le hice unos huecos en el fondo.

Next I mixed the fertilizers, I took the plant out of the old pot and with a knife I started scraping the sides because there was something green on them, it looked like moss or something like that hahaha, I guess it had accumulated due to the humidity and the little space.

Seguidamente hice la mezcla de los abonos, saqué la planta de la maceta vieja y con un cuchillo empecé a raspar los lados porque tenían algo verde, parecía musgo o algo así jajaja, supongo que se había acumulado por la humedad y el poco espacio.

I carefully removed all this green layer that covered the citronella / Con cuidado quité toda esta capa verde que cubría al malojillo

Do you remember that I told you that in Venezuela we use citronella for everything? Well, even Guillermina knows it and doesn't miss the opportunity to take a bite hehehe / ¿Recuerdan que les dije que en Venezuela usamos el malojillo para todo? Bueno, hasta Guillermina lo sabe y no pierde la oportunidad de darle un mordisco jejeje

In order to be able to transplant her deeper and so that the stem would not be so far out, I removed a lot of soil from the bottom and planted her, then I added fertilizers mixed with part of her soil until she was well covered.

Para poder trasplantarlo a mayor profundidad y que no me quedara el tallo tan afuera le retiré bastante tierra de la parte de abajo y lo sembré, luego le fuí echando los abonos mezclados con parte de su tierra hasta cubrir bien.

And this is how my citronella looks now, she certainly looks much better in this pot, although I think she still needs an even greater depth pot 🥴😬🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️.

Y así quedó mi malojillo, sin duda se ve mucho mejor en esta maceta aunque creo que sigue necesitando una maceta de aún mayor profundidad 🥴😬🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️.

And this is how my three plants look with their new pots, two of them made with recycled material ♻️ something very important 😉.

Y así se ven mis tres plantas con sus nuevas macetas, dos de ellas hechas con material reciclado ♻️ algo muy importante 😉.

Plants brighten our spaces and their flowers and colors make us feel better. I love getting my hands dirty with earth while I enjoy this pleasant and relaxing activity that helps us connect with nature while in our homes. Gardening is an excellent method of meditation without having to make so much effort to concentrate 🍃🧘🏻‍♀️.

Las plantas alegran nuestros espacios y sus flores y colores nos hacen sentir mejor. Me encanta ensuciarme las manos con tierra mientras disfruto esta actividad tan agradable y relajante que nos ayuda a conectar con la naturaleza estando en nuestras casas. La jardinería es un excelente método de meditación sin tener que hacer tanto esfuerzo para concentrarse 🍃🧘🏻‍♀️.
