Hiking at Canada Hill, Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia

Hi hi.. It is me.. Today is another beautiful Monday and a new week. I hope that your day would be great. It's a beautiful day to go on a hike. I am bringing you to the jungles of Borneo to hike in Canada hill. This is a popular hiking spot for locals. It has been a very long time since I last came here to hike. These trails have numbers. I started at trail 10 and ended at trail 18. My wife and I spent around 1 and the half hours.

TRAIL 10

Trail 10 is a steep walk downwards to the bottom. It usually takes around 10 minutes to 20 minutes depending on your speed. The best thing about hiking is that, it brings us closer to nature. Lots of foliage around here.

Dense jungles

The jungles of Borneo are dense. You would not want to get lost in one of these jungles. Prior to this hike, it was raining, so the trails were slightly muddy.

Slippery steps

When hiking, always step on areas with leaves rather than bare sandy trails especially after a rain. Have shoes that have high friction with spikes if possible. This increase the grip.

The muddy trails

After a hike in these jungle, you'll definitely find mud all over the body. Your shoes need cleaning. Your pants are covered with mud if you do slide which has a high percentage of happening.

Man made steps

These are man made. Some of those difficult path ways have ropes to help us out when we need help.

It's a long way down.

This is one of the trails that leads downwards. If your familiar with these trails, you can do a trail run. It is quite fun. I do that sometimes.

The view of Miri city from up high.

This is the highest point of the city where you can spend your time here just enjoying the view of the cityscapes of Miri.

The Miri signboard

You can see this from the city. This sign is huge. A couple of storeys high.

Skyscrapers

Not many but increasing gradually. It's not a huge city yet.

This is a steep climb down where you'll need some huge steps.

While I climbed down on time, my pants split open. So when I climb down here, I made sure I do not take too huge of steps.

My wife climbing down

It's quite fun to hike down. I run and I hike and I do weighs. Three types of workouts that I usually enjoy doing.

Being close to nature

So many beautiful trees surround the forest. You would be enjoying the beauty of it during the day, but at night , it's completely different. There was once that my wife and I hiked till 7pm and it was super dark. Just like what you would see in a horror movie. hahaha..

My wife resting

There are places where you can rest before you head on to the next checkpoint. Each of these trails have shortcut routes that leads outwards if you do decide to just walk out.

The valleys

You can hear the waterfalls as you are here at the valleys. Sometimes, I wash my hand here and shoes in case it gets too muddy.

A bridge

There are many of these wooden bridges around. They are sturdy enough. So no worries to walk along these.

The pristine forest

Lots of forest. It's also like being in a Jurassic park movie but in real life.

Some climbs look like these

Grab on ropes and slowly descend downwards and check the steps to make sure they are not too slippery.

Some more muddy trails.

On a rainy day, it is more slippery. If your not used to hiking, do hike only one or two hills first. I've been hiking for a good amount of my life.

Nature is beautiful. The best time to hike here is around 4 or 5. That's when you'll see the most beautiful sunset. The orange golden sunset.

Some of the tall trees here.

This is a couple of storeys high. That is a long way down.

Hope that you will enjoy your day. Wish you a great day. This looks like a scene from Jurassic World. Without dinosaurs.

a very tiring haking trip of course, but in other ways we can see how beautiful nature is, and of course the road we have to go through is very long, slippery dirt roads and some climbs like the one in your photo

That’s such a good experience to go on hiking. I imagine it might be a bit tired but worth it especially I really love to see the waterfall if it could exist, the sounds and scenery would definitely make you feel safe and relaxing.

hello dear friend may goodness always be with you, Sarawak is an area I have always wanted to visit, because a few years ago I had good memories in Kuala Lumpur, memories that I will never forget, I know so many Malaysians, from various backgrounds occupation and ethnicity (race), and there I also met a woman of DAYAK descent who was born in Sarawak, and from your photos I have seen some parts of its natural beauty.

There is a famous hiking trail near my apartment, the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve Hiking Trail. And there are plenty of hiking trails elsewhere - Bukit Gasing, Templer Park, FRIM Forest Reserve, Broga Hill etc, and those who are adventurous can go out of town for more challenging hikes.

This hiking is very exciting, but when I saw the incline it really scared me a little, but there's nothing wrong with trying hiking, and there must be friends to invite too.

Your post made me miss trekking. I feel so alive deep in the jungle. I once dreamed of becoming a bushwacker, making my own trail through the forest. 😂
