🍲 Sour Coconut Vegetable Hummingbird Flowers Soup 🍚 An Ital Recipe

1F938FB01A694F78B63D8565F025C26E.jpeg

Hi dear friends, the other day I go to the Chinese store and I saw vegetable hummingbird flowers, one plastic bag for 8 SRD. This is my first time I see them in a store in Suriname, already living here 2 years. But I still never see this tree.

Cambodians boil and eat them like a salad and we make so many different foods from these flowers. We cook or eat the leaves also. We have a dish called "samlor pkaa angkie dei" make from fish and don’t use coconut milk.

I went to make nearly that recipe but I change a little ingredients for vegan recipe.

We need to pick the yellow thing inside the flowers, because the people in my country we don't eat them. I don’t know why but we do by old people. After we wash it two to three times.

Fry tofu or not fry as you like but my family like to eat fried tofu more than raw tofu.

Step 1

Boil water and add dried chilies, fresh chilies, lime leaves, sliced garlic, sliced galangal, and boil it.

You can use more coconut milk than me if you like. I like to use more, but I have on this day only 1/2 cup coconut milk.

Cambodia is king of sour soups, although Thai and Vietnamese cuisine certainly get a lot more international attention. Hummingbird flowers are something not enough people take advantage of, especially the owners of the trees from which they bloom. I am glad these are a nearly free food in Suriname because they are so delicious.

Thanks @sreypov for sharing this with us.
