Random collection

avatar

I don't know about you guys, but I get a great sense of enjoyment and satisfaction out of bringing a group of random things together into one collective thing that connects, works together and is enjoyable.

I wrote that opening line and then realised I could very well be talking about steem; You know, a bunch of us coming together on the platform, connecting with each other, working towards the future together and enjoying the process...Sounds steemish right?

It was just a happy coincidence though as I wrote it in respect of my latest Lego build, the 4x4 X-treme off-roader that I posted about a few days ago.

I have set up stage one of the build, it's underway and before long all those little pieces will combine into the completed set.

This is a little different than the others I've done in that it has 3 motors to drive the model once complete plus a control hub, which is where the batteries go, and I assume it receives the command signals as well. The idea is that I download the control app, the Lego Technic Control+ app and I can make the 4x4 drive. Yep, it's cool.

I know there's a lot of people out there who don't build Lego or maybe see the point to it and it's ok, each to their own I guess. I love the process of building though, the reward that comes from effort, of working to bring many elements together and to see it working...You know, it's much like my steem experience.

I started like many others, with nothing but the words in my head and the ability to tap them out onto a computer. I didn't invest in steem in the early days and spent a long time clawing my way towards my goal of making dolphin with 5,000SP. It took a long time! I worked hard putting the pieces together, posting, commenting and replying daily and slowly it came together into what essentially is my brand here, such as it is; My product.

Has it been satisfying and rewarding? Sure it has, and it continues to be so...Like my Lego 4x4 is going to be as I will drive it around and have some ongoing fun once it is complete...But my steem-build isn't complete. No, not even close.

A person's steem-build isn't like a Lego set you see; There's not a finite amount of elements, pieces, to bring together...It's ongoing, maybe not daily as it is for me, but it's a blog, a written or pictorial reflection of you and what's inside you. It evolves endlessly...At least until a person is no longer here, on the planet anyway.

We're a random collection of people, just like the bits and pieces of Lego I build, but together we make up something tangible, real and functional. I think it's cool to be a part of that, one of the builders. Don't you think?

So, I've started my latest Lego build and look forward to completing it at the same time as continuing my steem-build; A kind of nice feeling all round, especially with steem prices on the up.

I'll update you along the way with the 4x4 build and hope you stick around for it. My plan is to do a video, with my GoPro and mobile phone, of it driving around in an off-road situation which should be cool. Don't get too excited though, I'm not a great video-maker...It'll tell the story though I guess, and I hope that's enough for you guys.

Thanks for reading.

Wow, I loved this reading, because of the inspiring and the analogy you make of the layman with Steem. I played lego when I was a child, I loved the union of pieces building on children's fantasy. Of course, I did simpler things, like houses and dolls hahaha, but it was a very fun experience and developed my intellect and ability to build something. The layman is like life, construction, the union of essential pieces and so is Steem, union, and work of all of us who make up the ecosystem. Thank you for sharing this beautiful reading, I like your writing style, you leave a lot of content for the soul and human learning, that which is not acquired in the university but by passing through life. I embrace you from here, dear @galenkp. You're great.

Yes, Lego is for kids...And almost 50 year-olds like me too! 😁

I enjoy it a lot and find it relaxes me...Except when I make a mistake and have to deconstruct something I just spent hours making. 🙈

Thanks for commenting, I am pleased you are enjoying my blog.

My DJI Osmo 3 turned up today, or so Faith tells me...Now...To work out how to use the bugger.

“I love it when a plan comes together!” - John “Hannibal” Smith.

For me, I think Steem will be an ongoing, never ending project of self improvement and investment.
Hopefully one day it will pay off in a may that supports whatever projects I want to engage in.

Do you have something specific in mind or are you just thinking generally at this stage?

I think it will take a few years to grow my account to where it’s paying my bills or even for small holidays, so I am speaking in general terms for now.
In terms of goals I’d like to reach dolphin level before Christmas, which is still rather loose but it’s an over arching goal that can guide my daily tasks.

I’d like to be commenting / replying to a lot more people every day and also get a few quality posts out every week.

All good plans to have. Probably no reason why you couldn't achieve them. certainly the dolphin one seems tenable. Break it down to what you need a week and work out a plan of posting and curation to help you reach it.

I wanted to be a dolphin by the end of last year, having just become a minnow the Christmas of the year before. If I was doing regular DTube or 3Speak videos then I think I would have achieved that before Christmas just gone.
But, you're right it works out to be 9 SP a day, so that's quite a few comments, replies daily. Quality posts will help along the way too.

Yes, and curation of course which pays our a little.

GoPro mounted on a Lego 4x4 sounds terribly, painfully cool.

I get a similar kind of satisfaction turning a single primitive object into a thing XD (though apparently I'm doing it wrong doing it like that)

Howdy sir galenkp! Great analogy there. Why does that 4x4 have three motors? How's your weekend going? Oh never mind, I'll read about it in a day or so!

That video of the kids trying to drive them down the tower obstacle course with pitfalls was a blast to watch.
