kayaking in black and white photography

These pictures are my entry for the #monomad contest by @brumest and @monochromes.

Hello, Hivers and Black and White Community!
It is always a joy to share moments, and today I am bringing you one of those. This photograph was captured two years ago at Filinvest Samal Island, a place that holds a warm and special corner in our family's story. We spent the day there simply enjoying each other's company, unbothered by schedules or screens and just us, together, making memories the unhurried way.
The highlight of that day was borrowing a boat so we could take turns kayaking across the water. It was one of those spontaneous decisions that turns an ordinary outing into something you talk about for years. The laughter, the splashing, the slight panic of keeping the kayak straight, all of it was pure, unscripted joy. I grabbed my camera somewhere between strokes, wanting to freeze a fragment of that afternoon before the light changed and the moment passed.

When I converted the image to black and white, it took on a different kind of weight the kind that strips everything back to feeling. Without color to distract, you notice the texture of the water, the stillness beneath the movement, and the quiet intimacy of family simply being present with one another. That, I think, is exactly what this community celebrates: real moments, honestly told.

These photos were taken by me @dondononardem using my Nikon D3100 in color and later edited in Adobe Lightroom to create these black and white images. I hope you enjoy my simple photography and family moments.
