To bloom or not to bloom

Stapelia Gigantea bud bw 2.jpg

Stapelia Gigantea has definitely the biggest flowers if all the succulents (and cacti) I own. Of all the flowers now that I think of it. The size of one flower is probably about 13 cm across if not more.
They are also the hairiest and the stinkiest of them all! That is quite a lot most and best for one plant.

I often try to shoot the buds of my new plants and then flowers when they open. In this case the buds look just so much better! The slip shape, some veins. As showy, and amazing looking the flowers are not the most photogenic. Or I didn't find the way to shoot them to make them look nice.
Yet :)

So many hair!To remind you, those flower smell like rotten flesh. Add that too the hairy look, wild pattern and dark brown-red colour of the flowers... yea.. quite wild.

Wow! What a hairy flower!!! Maybe because of its smell, it attracts insects, this it has hairs to protect itself. Hahaha! 😂 Just wondering. 😍😍

It's beautiful. I wonder what it looks in colored. 😛

Have a beautiful day. 😊

It attracts flies for them to pollinate the flowers.
Then my cat loves to chase them :)

Looks like this:

Ohhhh! It's beautiful! Attracts flies? Flies pollinate them? Whew! That's something new to me. I thought ONLY butterflies pollinate! Hahaha! 😂😛

Thank you for taking the time to show me the colored picture. 😍 I appreciate it so much! ❤❤

Have a beautiful day @ewkaw. 😊

Hahaha butterflies don't like stinky flowers :D Those really stink terribly!
Only flies go there. The ones that lay eggs in meat and dead animals. So you can imagine the smell :p

Have a lovely day as well :))

It looks like an alien plant predator! Sometimes I am amazed how many beautiful and at the same time frightening things are in nature!)

It would be fun if it also could eat the flies that show up :p
