Sunflower is a herbaceous plant that is usually cultivated throughout the world for its ornamental qualities and to extract its oil, which is used in food preparation, it is also characterized by having a property called heliotropism, which allows it to orient itself towards the sun to take better advantage of its rays, which serve to nourish and strengthen itself.

In various cultures, there are stories about sunflowers, made up of components as interesting as they are magical. They are often associated with honesty, perseverance, and loyalty.

In Greek mythology, a young water nymph named Clytie fell head over heels in love with the sun god Apollo and with the light that he gave off every time he passed over her with his fiery chariot across the sky. Such was his love that he continued his journey every day from the time he left his palace in the morning until he returned at sunset in the west.

She admired his strength and his beauty, however, Apollo never noticed her. The days passed until they became months, and the months the years, and still she could not win the favors of the young god.

Clytie would lose her nymph appearance to start taking root, and from her beautiful face would come gold-colored petals, until she turned into a beautiful flower, a sunflower, dedicated only to following her gaze with the object of her impossible love: Apollo.

A legend that highlights the meaning of perseverance and fidelity of this flower, since Clytie's love for Apollo will never end, at least not while there are sunflowers on the face of the earth

This image taken a few years ago, corresponds to a field of sunflowers located next to the General José Antonio Páez Highway, a short distance from the twin cities of Acarigua - Araure, in the Venezuelan western plains.

To modify the original photo, as I have done for previous publications, I made use of the PicsArt application, using a filter overlay, starting with a filter of the HDR (High Dynamic Range) type in order to enlarge the tones of the image original, and later I used a Black & White filter.
