Thank you :)
Your post made me realize how much I miss a good train trip.
I remember a very long train trip from Sofia to Berlin from my childhood, it was virtually a week long, passing through Romania, Hungary and Poland :) It was an indescribable experience from a cultural perspective. For instance I recall we all had to bribe to Romanian border policemen with packs of cigarettes otherwise they empty all your luggage on the floor of the train and start digging. I was about 17 years old by then :)
One week?
That's hardcore.
And I was thinking the 12 hours trip I had on my first visit to Poland was some sort of achievement, lol.
Those border policemen remind me stories I heard of Angolan airport policemen from the 80's. Exactly the same procedure and consequences. They were also accepting booze and jeans.
It felt too long, true :) I wouldn't do it again unless combined with pleasant company, I suppose. Good that we took a plane back then. It was in the 80-ies. Some of this things still exist here and there and customs and border police are one of the best indicators for the level of corruption in a country, in my opinion. I am sure there isn't a single country in the world without corruption, unfortunately.
Thanks! Congratulations to the winners!
I really enjoyed the little details you captured with your shots.
