A Sublime Monochrome Sunday - a Monomad and Love The Clouds contest entry

I'm marking off three distinct entries with this post, and feel very impressed with myself for being able to do so:

My youngest son and I went for a walk in nearby New Castle this afternoon to take some photos. It was an overcast day and, for me, I thought it'd be a great day for some black and white pictures. My son, on the other hand, was just happy to get out to take some pictures with his new camera.

I've been to "Old New Castle" before and went to my regular haunts. I would have done some more exploring, but I had the little guy with me; my goal was to teach him a little more about photography, and I felt I could do that best by going to locations I was already aware of, such as the grand old church above, and then the riverfront.

It was definitely overcast and moody. With the end of August on the horizon I am already looking forward to autumn and Halloween, which is my favourite time of the year, so I'm always in the mood for moody days like this. In fact, I might even start decorating for Halloween next week. But for now I have photos to share.

I was using only my 18-55mm lens. There was once - the picture right above with the flag at half staff - where I would have liked a 210mm, but I did the best with what I had. And, apparently, I need to clean the lens. Oops.

These geese did not mind the dirty lens. I'm really quite surprised that they let us get as close as we did,

This is a simple pier, but for some reason I'm always drawn to it. It has "something" that fascinates me. Maybe it was designed by a woman. Dunno. But I like it.

Now, unlike the last time my son and I went out, this time he agreed to let me share some of his photos. He did not want his converted into black and white, however, so I just did some colour correction instead.

He had asked me how cameras work, so I gave him a quick explanation of how light enters through the lens and interacts either with film or a sensor. I thought it was an awfully good question. The last time we had gone out he asked me about how we know that anyone else actually exists, so this was a little much easier for me to discuss.

And then ice cream before home. A good afternoon!

Life is also beautiful in black and white and even more so if we look at it through the lens of your camera. Beautiful images, as always it is a pleasure to read you and enjoy your photographs, dear Victor. A hug and a coffee in return! @wwwiebe

Thank you very much @marybellrg! I really would like to find something New and Exciting to go photograph; I'm planning a small road trip next week, and maybe something will just jump out at me.

Thanks for the coffee! It is my one true love. 😄

Yep, it happens. Thankfully cleaning both is easy to do. Serves me right for not using lens caps when I should be.

I have the same one of my lens I damaged slightly it works fine but the lens cap falls off often and I have to try and remember to clean the lens before I use it each time

This first shot is a great shot! Really grabbed me . The geese made me laugh, I don’t know why but they are so comical

Thanks! I was actually thinking of some of your castle clouds when I was putting this together.

They really are funny looking creatures, aren't they? And they're everywhere.

I have to be honest with you! I see a #SublimeSunday in here somewhere!

I love the monochrome means, especially how their descriptive nature pops. I think you like the pier because all that beauty is sandwiched in between the clouds and the Earth. Plus it's probably the woman thing. Your son is going to give you some definite competition you should cut them out now while he's Young.

I like black and white photos a lot; they remove the noise of colour and really bring out the shape, texture, and emotions of the moment.

And yeap, he's going to outdo me one day. I'm looking forward to that actually. I plan on going senile early and am going to need well rounded children to look out for me!

Well, you know what they say; the truth shall set you free (to run naked and laughing through the streets). That's my bellwhether.

I also just happened to have taken off my glasses and placed them down. Somewhere. It's a good thing I have a second pair. Now I'll get to misplace them as well.
