Hive Communities - Pinned Posts

(Edited)

These last few days I used Hive communities quite intensely, SteemHelp in particular since I created it.

And in this community, I intend to make use of pinned posts quite often, both for official announcements and to boost new interesting posts to the top.

So, the way pinned posts work and feel is important. I believe it's time again for a feedback on Hive communities.

Here's a screenshot on which I'd like to make some comments afterwards:

Notice the red marked areas from the first two posts?

On the second post there's a Pinned tag visible. On the first post, although pinned, the tag is not visible, although it looks like it is displayed in the background -- notice the cyan sort of an underline below "Community", in the red marked area, which likely comes from a Pinned tag which was overwritten by other text.

The third post is also pinned -- and acts as a pinned post -- but has no visible (traces of a) Pinned tag.

I believe in both cases -- the first and the third posts -- the Pinned tag is actually displayed, but the fact the title is too long interferes with its visibility.

Obviously this is not good.

Luckily there are two potential solutions for that.

  1. Display the Pinned tag on the same line as the date/time of posting, like this:
    image.png
This will maintain the fixed vertical size for the thumbnail view, when the title and description are reduced to one liners and the tag will always be visible when it is set. Perfect solution in my opinion, given the chosen fixed vertical size implementation.
  2. Do what SteemPeak does. Allow the full title to be visible, and keep adding the Pinned tag afterwards. That will make the size of each entry dynamic, but in borderline cases, the tag might still not be visible (or be partially visible), if the title ends at the "end of the line".

This was the main reason for this post.

Functionally, I want to point out pinned posts are only pinned in the Trending view. In the New view, posts are displayed normally, by their time of publishing, disregarding the Pinned tag. Payouts view, likewise, respects the normal ordering of next posts to reach payout, without interference from the Pinned tag to break this order.

I don't know if this is good or not. Possibly this is good. But I am remarking it, since I am writing about pinned posts.
